Thank you to IFEA member Jake Snarr for sharing his insights on how the anti-union bill was an attack on Public Educators taking away rights for our members. Please check how your representative voted on HB516. If you need information on candidates the IEA is endorsing please reach out. Our local team of educators in Region 6 has interviewed candidates on public education issues, this includes how they would support the state funding for public education vs supporting Tax breaks for private charters that take away public dollars to school districts across Idaho. It truly matters that Educators vote in the May primary. We encourage our members and their families to vote for legislators who support Public Education and your profession as public educators.

"Teachers across the state are pretty demoralized about this – especially due to the targeted nature of the bill," said Taylorview Middle School teacher Jake Snarr. "This bill leaves out our firefighters unions and our police unions. It specifically goes for the Idaho Education Association and our...

Please consider the candidates running for the important legislative seat. Candidate Conner Cook, a union member and firefighter, criticized the legislature's anti-union bill and supports public education. The May primary provides an opportunity to elect a representative in Idaho Falls who backs public education, education professionals, and union rights.

Rep. Barbara Ehardt, R-Idaho Falls, will face Republican Connor Cook in the May 19 primary election in District 33 House Seat A. She is seeking a fifth term. In her four Republican primary elections, Ehardt has been challenged by a Republican just once. She faced her first and only Republican in 202...

HB 516 has been signed into law. Read IEA President Layne McInelly’s press release below.

Now what?

In Idaho, many of the decisions that shape our schools are made in the May primary—often by a small number of voters.

That means what happens next is up to us.

This is our moment.
May matters more than ever.

⚖️ Idaho Supreme Court Rejects Voucher Lawsuit - May Matters

“This is not the ruling we were hoping for. We appreciate the Court’s careful attention to the lawsuit and the opportunity to argue for public education. But it is profoundly disappointing that we must wait for damage to be done to Idaho’s public school system before vouchers can be challenged again in the courts.

Idaho’s public school students, educators, and the communities that must foot the bill for the voucher program — while struggling mightily to maintain their own underfunded schools — will pay the true cost of HB 93.

In the meantime, the power to make public education better is well within our reach. We must take it by turning out to vote in the May primary. This setback can be temporary — but only if we all express our displeasure in the system at the ballot box.”

- Paul Stark, IEA Executive Director
