Boise County Search and Rescue
Mission 5-9-2026

On Saturday May 9th 2026 at roughly 21:53hrs, Boise County Search and Rescue was dispatched by the Boise County Sheriff's Office to find and rescue 2 dirt bike riders stranded in the snow and Ice near Sunset lookout area east of Mores Creek summit. Boise County Search and Rescue responded with a UTV, two dirt bikes and two EMT’s. The two rescuers on dirt bikes made their way up the mountain trail immediately while the UTV rescuer slowly made his way up the trail having to open a path through fallen trees with their chainsaw. The two dirt bike rescuers located the stranded people and provided them with rest and water while they waited for the UTV to make its way up the trail. Once the UTV made it to the rendezvous the rescued riders were taken off the mountain and driven back to their truck in Idaho City.

Special thanks to The Boise County Sherrif’s Deputy 2246 and dispatcher who quickly deployed Boise County Search and Rescue and kept them updated with new location coordinates. This quick deployment allows for quick action that resulted in a swift rescue to get the stranded riders off the cold mountain.

It is our mission to help those in need anywhere in Boise County. Whether you are stranded, lost or injured we will come for you. Please make sure when recreating in the mountains to plan for the worse. Make sure you have extra water, warm clothes, a charged phone or radio to call for help. Make sure you carry flashlights/headlamps with extra batteries and always know your location.

Please help if you can.

Despite being home to some of Idaho's most popular waterways, Boise County lacks a dive team to assist with search-and-rescue efforts. They want to change that.

Centerville Road is currently in extremely poor condition, and it is creating serious concerns, especially when it comes to emergency response times.

When road conditions deteriorate to this level, it directly impacts how quickly emergency services can safely reach those in need. East Boise County EMS does everything within their power to respond as quickly and safely as possible. Their commitment to their patients and this community is unwavering.

Please know: they are coming. They care deeply. Getting to you and providing timely, life-saving care is incredibly important to them.

However, when road conditions interfere with emergency access, it becomes more than an inconvenience, it becomes a public safety issue. This situation needs attention and action to ensure our community can be reached without unnecessary delay.

On Sunday November 23 at 17:27 Boise County Search and Rescue was called out by the Boise County Sheriffs office to assist or extract a family of seven who’s vehicles battery had died while the family was looking for a Christmas tree near Pilot Peak about 15 miles north of Idaho city. Two members of the search and rescue team responded in their rescue jeep and made contact with the family on the snow-covered road at the corner of summit flat road and forest service road 314. The family was tired and cold. The parents were able to start a small fire while they waited for the rescue team to arrive. Upon arrival the rescue team was able to immediately jump start their vehicle and get the family in their vehicle and out of the snow and below freezing temperature. The two SAR members helped the father and one of their teenagers put out the fire and followed them down the mountain back to highway 21.

Please make sure when going off the highway into the mountains that you have a vehicle that is made to handle the terrain and uneven/rocky trails of Boise County. Please make sure your vehicle is in good operating condition and you have survival provisions such as fire starting equipment, blankets, food and water. Always have a way to call for help. Remember that winter is upon us and road conditions will be very dangerous. Please do not take any unnecessary risks. A Christmas tree is NEVER worth putting yourself or loved ones at risk

Boise County Search and Rescue remain ready to serve those in need. Please take care.

Chance favors the prepared mind!

On November 6, 2025, Boise County Search and Rescue along with Boise County Sheriff office and a forest service LEO were dispatched to the area of bald mountain to recover a hunter who tragically passed away during an elk hunt. It is believed that the hunters were attempting to return to their camp while packing an elk out they had harvested the day before. A text to 911 roughly around 03:00 the morning of the 6th stated that their friend was down and they needed help. EMS was paged out by state communications but due to the location ambulance services could not reach the hunters. CPR was initiated by the hunters but unfortunately was unsuccessful and the hunters reported to Boise County dispatch center that CPR was stopped and the man did not survive. Due to bad weather and the remote location, recovery efforts started at 09:00. Boise County Search and Rescue members rode into the remote area on dirt bikes and were able to locate the deceased. With help from 2 Boise County Sheriff’s deputies and a forest service LEO the body of the deceased was safely extracted from the remote area and taken to the county coroner at the Boise County Sheriff’s Office.

Our heart felt condolences go out to the family and friends of the deceased.

When visiting our mountains please remember that they offer amazing recreational opportunities; however, they can be dangerous. The further you go into the mountains the more difficult it can make it for first responders to reach you in an emergency.

Please take care when visiting our mountains. Know the area you are going in and be very aware you your physical condition. Make sure you have good means of communication and a way to coordinate your location. Stay hydrated and rest when needed. Make sure you have a way to stay dry and warm.
Boise County Search and Rescue remains ready to help those in need.
