Another wonderful field trip to Merryland Farm, where our Schuster riders learned about how young racehorses are raised and trained. Students got to test their math skills timing horses, figuring out how many times around a 5/8 track a horse needs to go to run a mile, and calculating how many miles per hour a horse can gallop. Thanks to manager Christy Holden and trainer Sonja Aleksic, students also discovered careers in the horse industry from being the farm accountant to running and repairing tractors to creative marketing and advertising jobs and of course to working directly with the horses. What a wonderful sunny summer day!!
