Southwest Boston CDC is a community driven organization committed to Hyde Park and Roslindale's best assets – its residents, businesses, and environment.

Southwest Boston Community Development Corporation works to build and sustain a thriving, economically diverse community in Hyde Park and Roslindale. We work to prevent displacement (particularly of low-income and elderly residents), create and preserve affordable housing, strengthen the commercial base of the neighborhoods, ensure access to good transit and protect and preserve green spaces to make our communities more climate resilient. Join Boston's Urban Wild Program for a community open house to learn more about the Urban Wilds Program and to share your input!

The Urban Wilds Program, which is a partnership between the Parks and Recreation Department and the Boston Conservation Commission, protects, restores, and maintains 30 Urban Wilds across Boston for conservation, environmental education, and passive recreation. Many of the urban wilds (including the city's largest urban wild, Sherrin Woods) are located in Hyde Park!

Thank you to all who joined us last Thursday at The Pryde Community Center for the Southwest Boston CDC's 25th Anniversary Celebration! We had an amazing celebratory evening of community and joy as we honored the people who made this work happen, shared stories of Southwest Boston's CDC's founding and 25 years of initiatives, and as we looked ahead to what's next.

Southwest Boston CDC’s Arts Initiative partnered with the Hyde Park Art Association and local businesses to develop ArtScene, a collaborative project that would benefit both local businesses and artists. For 10 years, the Hyde Park ArtScene, a street festival that brought together local musicians, artists, and restaurants to Fairmount Avenue where residents could purchase artwork and food from local artists and vendors.

Did you know that the Southwest Boston Community Development Corporation holds the conservation restriction for 2 urban wilds in Hyde Park: The Sherrin Woods Addition and Sprague Pond/Lakeside Avenue (pictured above)

What does this mean? - Our organization is legally responsible for working with Boston Parks and Recreation ensuring that these conservation lands are used only for intended purposes and taken care of.

A blast from the past!

Southwest Boston CDC started the Hyde Park Community Resources (HPCR), a coalition of service providers, community institutions, and community members that sought to ensure that all Hyde Park residents have access to the services they need to live healthy and productive lives. For many years, the HPCR had provided information about existing recreational, health and social services; to identify gaps in services; and to plan and implement new services as needed.

Southwest Boston CDC serves as the fiscal sponsor for and is a member of the Crane Ledge Woods Coalition, a grassroots-organized group of neighborhood associations, residents and other advocates that are trying to preserve a critical urban woodland that will enhance quality of life and environmental equity for our neighborhoods.
