Pyramid Atlantic Art Center was founded in 1981 by noted artist and teacher Helen C. Frederick to provide a setting for artistic collaboration and dialogue. A 501(c)(3) non-profit contemporary arts center, Pyramid receives federal and state funds as well as generous support from private foundations, corporations, and local businesses. In addition, we count individual donors and our members among o

ur most valued supporters. We are located in the historic Arcade building in the Hyattsville Gateway Arts District. The new 13,000 square foot facility features a papermaking studio, print shop, letterpress studio, and bindery.

In case you missed the Artist Talk by Imar Hutchins, we recorded it for your enjoyment! Imar discusses his process for the works in the exhibition Echo/Location that were on view at The Kreeger Museum in partnership with Pyramid Atlantic. Curated by Rhea L. Combs, PhD, Imar’s work was on view in
conversation with two masterworks from the Kreeger’s permanent collection by Sam Gilliam and Frank
Stella; an honor for any artist. Imar has a studio at Pyramid and is a regular fixture in its screenprint studio. He discussed the process behind the work in the Echo/Location show,
including his incorporation of printmaking into the other mediums of sculpture, collage and painting. He also discussed how he has been translating his collage aesthetic into glasswork and three-dimensional work.
