⚡ Our Newest Blog Is Here!

Why do some communities pay more for energy?

For many families, higher energy costs are about more than how much energy they use. Older homes, inefficient systems, and limited access to energy efficiency resources can all contribute to a higher energy burden.

In our newest blog, we explore why these disparities exist, why access to energy efficiency matters, and how Electrify Equity is working to connect Maryland homeowners with resources that can help.

⚡ WHY DOES ENERGY EQUITY MATTER?

When we talk about the clean energy transition, we often talk about technology.

Solar panels.
Electric vehicles.
Heat pumps.
Battery storage.
EV chargers.

But there's another question we have to ask:

Who gets access to these technologies — and who gets left behind?

Communities experiencing higher energy burdens can face significant challenges when it comes to paying for energy upgrades or accessing new technologies.

That's why Electrify Equity believes clean energy must be paired with access, education and opportunity.

We want residents to have the tools to:

⚡Make their homes more efficient
⚡Access EV charging
⚡Reduce energy costs
⚡Understand clean energy options
⚡Build careers in the clean energy industry

The clean energy future should not be something that happens to communities.

It should happen WITH communities 💪

That's the difference between electrification and equitable electrification.

👷🏾‍♀️⚡ INITIATIVE #4: COMMUNITY ELECTRIFIERS

Clean energy isn't just about technology.

It's about people.

The clean energy transition is creating new career opportunities — and we want residents in our communities to have access to those opportunities.

Through our Community Electrifiers Program, Electrify Equity supports local residents interested in building careers in the clean energy industry.

Participants can pursue training in areas such as:

⚡ EV Charging Infrastructure
🔧 EVSE Technician training
🏠 Energy Auditing
🌱 Clean Energy careers

And we're committed to removing financial barriers that can keep people from participating.

That means supporting training, materials and equipment so that residents can focus on building their skills and their careers.

Because we don't just want communities to benefit from electrification.

We want communities to build it because that's how we amplify impact.

📚 INITIATIVE #3: COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT + EDUCATION

Sometimes the biggest barrier isn't technology.

It's knowing where to start.

There are rebates, incentives, energy programs, EV resources and clean energy opportunities available to Maryland residents — but navigating all of it can feel overwhelming.

That's why community education is such an important part of our work.

Electrify Equity brings information directly into the communities we serve through:

📍 Community events
🗣️ Workshops & presentations
🚗 EV education & demonstrations
🏠 Energy efficiency education
💬 One-on-one conversations
🤝 Partnerships with community organizations

We don't believe in simply telling people what they should do.

We believe in giving people the information they need to make informed decisions for themselves and their families.

And yes — sometimes that means getting out from behind the computer and meeting people where they are. ❤️

That's what community engagement looks like.

🏠 INITIATIVE #2: ENERGY EFFICIENCY UPGRADES

Your home shouldn't be working against you.

For many families, high energy bills aren't simply a budgeting problem. Older or inefficient homes can require more energy to heat and cool, creating higher costs and uncomfortable living spaces.

That's where energy efficiency comes in.

Electrify Equity works to connect underserved communities with energy efficiency solutions that can help:

💡 Reduce energy waste
💰 Lower household energy costs
🌡️ Improve indoor comfort
🏠 Improve home performance
🌱 Reduce greenhouse gas emissions

And we're not just talking about one product or one upgrade.

We're interested in looking at the whole home and helping residents understand what improvements can make the biggest difference.

Energy efficiency is one of the most important pieces of an equitable clean energy future.

Because you shouldn't have to choose between being comfortable and being able to afford your energy bill.

⚡ INITIATIVE #1: EV CHARGING INFRASTRUCTURE

Owning an electric vehicle shouldn't depend on whether you live in a community with convenient access to a charger.

One of the biggest barriers to EV adoption is simple: Where do I charge?

Electrify Equity works to expand access to reliable EV charging infrastructure in underserved communities — including multifamily housing, workplaces, community spaces, churches and other locations where people live, work and gather.

We believe charging infrastructure can do more than power vehicles.

It can:

🔌 Make EV ownership more accessible

🏘️ Support multifamily communities

💰 Create opportunities for local businesses

🌱 Reduce transportation emissions

⚡ Help communities participate in the clean energy economy

The clean transportation transition is happening and we want to make sure everyone has a place in it.
