A fond farewell to Rev. Nathan Hill as he moves to his next church call. A farewell luncheon was held on January 26 at the PGPlaza Day Center, located at University Christian Church on Adelphi Rd. Nathan was instrumental in recognizing the need and promoting the establishment of the Day Center, which provides a safe daytime environment for the homeless and those with economic hardships in the Hyattsville community. The Day Center opened its doors in October 2016 and continues to support this critical need. Twelve churches support the program, serving as board members and encouraging sponsorships, donations, and volunteers within each congregation. We also celebrated the retirement of Rev. John Burns of the University Baptist Church in College Park. John served as the board chair for many years and has passed the baton to new board members. Thank you to Nathan and John for your service and a job well done! https://www.weareubc.org/https://uccmd.org/

It was good to be back at the Day Center today (PGPlaza Day Center sponsored by Congregations United) and to visit on a Tuesday rather than the usual Thursday. We connected with regular and new guests and the regular volunteers. Along with providing lunch, laundry, showers, WiFi connection, social services and spiritual support, its a great opportunity for good conversation, to be cool in the A/C, play chess and work on a puzzle. Lisa overachieved this time with a 3,000 piece puzzle. Day one and we have bets on how many years it will take to complete. Stop by any time. The Day Center supports those in the greater Hyattsville and beyond area (including Riverdale, University Park, College Park, and Greenbelt). ,

The Day Center continues in full swing with guests enjoying great food, good company, and access to showers and laundry. It's nice to see everyone spending time together and enjoying the company. The volunteers are dedicated in supporting the Center each Tuesday and Thursday. Participating churches provide lunch each week. The many recent contributions from churches and University of Maryland motivated volunteers to organize the storage shelve. Volunteers and guests spend time doing puzzles and playing chess. The center continues to get food contributions from Nando's Peri Peri Restaurant in College Park and recently, via UMD student events, an abundance of Qdoba Catering donations. All are welcomed. Stop by anytime on Tuesday or Wednesday between 12:30 - 4:30 pm, University Christian Church on Adelphia Rd in Hyattsville.
