Workers Comp:
Coverage designed to protect workers from injuries and lost wages. While the definition has not changed the responsibility of the employer and the options have grown. Sole Proprietors, partners and managers of LLC's can opt in for coverage and corporate officers can opt out. Your independent agency is the best option to guide you through these tough decisions and we can provide direction and policies that best provides to your business exposure. Not all businesses are created equal. Why do some industries require subs to purchase coverage and others like real estate agents and salon-workers do not. These questions and more are great opportunities to meet and review with your local agency.

Detached Structures and The Insurance Policy:

Every carrier insures detached structures slightly differently. Detached structures can be simple sheds or buildings where business is conducted or people live. The surge of ADUs has highlighted these differences. What kind of activities go on in the structure? Business, housing, storage? Does the occupant pay? Is it a family member? Is there a full kitchen? Questions like these need to be explored and presented to the carrier so exposure is covered correctly. There are variables to each detached structure and each carrier sees things differently. CCIAA agencies work to understand your situation and look for the proper coverage solution.

Short-term Rental Law:

As a reminder, the law requires the host to carry at least $1,000,000 premises liability if a property is rented for less than 31 days at a time. There are many types of companies helping homeowners with the rental process. There are boutique companies that will take over the property and do everything for the owner, as well as the standard real estate rental office on Main Street. Remember, the host is required to carry the $1,000,000 on their insurance. Many of the rental carriers claim they provide the coverage and the homeowner does not have to worry - This is incorrect.
