Special Guest Speaker Dr. Dawn Johnson (school superintendent) will be discussing the Hutchinson School District (308) bond issue.

The bond issue will be on the November 4, 2025, asking voters to consider approval of the $109.5 million master plan that covers the following categories.

Repurpose the first floor of HMS 8 to create a PreK center - $4.2 million

Enhancements to six elementary schools - $15.5 million

Build a new middle school for 6th-8th grade - $82.9 million

Repurpose 2nd and 3rd floors of HMS 8 to move student services to one location - $5 million

Relocate baseball and soccer fields at 23rd and Severance (for new middle school) - $1.9 million

Valerie Taylor spoke to our Rotary group today about ALICE at Work – Supporting Employees, Strengthening Organizations

Valerie Taylor, Director of Community Impact at United Way of Reno County, provided an update on ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) data specific to Reno County. Valerie focused on how employers can actively support ALICE workers and why this is critical not only for the community, but also for building stronger, more resilient organizations. She dischssed practical strategies for employers to integrate ALICE support into their workplace practices, ultimately contributing to a more equitable and sustainable local economy.

Valerie Taylor is the Director of Community Impact at United Way of Reno County where she leads efforts to tackle social challenges through collaboration and innovation. She plays a key role in initiatives such as ALICE, the Mental Health Task Force, and Reno County VOAD, and is actively involved in community organizations like Interfaith Housing and Milestone Clubhouse. Valerie’s work brings together diverse community partners to address issues of equity, access, and opportunity.

This week we had the pleasure of hearing Thomas Simmons speak at our Rotary Club of Hutchinson luncheon. Thanks Thomas for the grrat work and education you are providing for our county‼️

Thomas began a path to recovery in 2019 and has since been an advocate for those trying to find their way, regardless of their method.

Thomas is a Health Educator at the Reno County Health Department, certified in mental health first aid for youths, as well as adults. He is certified by the American Heart Association in Opioid Education for Healthcare Providers and works with a non-profit called Kansas Recovery Network, which works to connect people with the necessary resources and get them the harm reduction services and supplies that they need. He believes in equitable services and resources and facilitates and attends various committees, which are committed to making those services a reality.

We had the great pleasure of hearing Graciela M. the 2025 Boys & Girls Clubs of Hutchinson Youth of the Year speak today at our Rotary luncheon..

Gracela is a junior at Hutchinson High School and has been a Club member for 12 years. She is on the soccer team at school, student council, Junior Leaders, and is working toward the Eagle Rank in Scouts.

At the Club, Graciela has been involved in Club programs such as Power Hour, SMART Girls, Junior Staff, EPIC Skillz, and flag football.

Graciela is proud to motivate others. “I believe people work harder and better when they know they have someone there they can count on.”
