The Dillon Lecture Series at Hutchinson Community College
was created in 1981 to honor community leaders Ray and
Stella Dillon. The purpose of the series is to provide an
out-of-classroom educational experience for the youth of
this community and at the same time enable the citizens
of Reno County to hear outstanding lecturers. They
encompass a diverse variety of topics and professions. The Dillon

Lecture Series Committee selects three to four
speakers each year. Some notable lecturers in the series
have been, Maya Angelou, Robert E Kennedy Jr., Henry
Winkler, and Mario Andretti. The series is funded by patron membership and corporate
sponsorship. Students of all ages are admitted to the
lecture free of charge. Community members, who are not
patrons of the series, can purchase tickets at the door for
each event. Braille programs and interpretation for the hearing impaired available with 7-day
advance notice of each lecture. The Dillon Lecture Series is a non-profit organization. A portion of the patron membership is tax deductible.

The Dillon Lecture Series welcomed Jim Olson, former Chief of Counterintelligence at CIA Headquarters in Langley, Virginia, to the Hutchinson Sports Arena on Sept. 16. Olson spent more than 30 years in clandestine assignments overseas before concluding his career as an officer-in-residence at the Bush School of Government at Texas A&M University.

In his lecture, Olson shared powerful stories from a life dedicated to intelligence and counterintelligence, offering insights into leadership, integrity, and global security. Following the lecture, he joined patrons for a luncheon and Q&A, where he connected with guests and signed copies of his two books.

From stories about his cancer battles to inspiring words on being a light for others, Tyler left the audience moved and motivated. The final speaker of the 2024 Dillon Lecture Series was K-State Men's Basketball Coach, Jerome Tang. Tang shared about his career journey, as well as stories of his faith, family, coaching staff, and team. Patrons held a Q&A session over the lunch hour, immediately following the lecture.
