At yesterday's Hutchinson Housing Commission meeting, Jeff Schenk with the engineering department reported that all of the residential sidewalk replacement projects have been completed for the first year of the city's Safer Access For Everyone (SAFE) program. The program repairs or replaces sidewalks at low or no cost to property owners. This year the program completed projects on East Sherman Avenue and West 5th, 10th, and 13th avenues.
City Council has budgeted additional funds for the program in 2023, and applications are now open for next year's projects. Schenk said he is hoping to get more applications for partial replacements, where smaller segments of sidewalk need replaced, allowing the budget to help improve more sidewalks.
If your sidewalk needs work, even for a small part of it, consider applying for the program. Applications are due March 31, 2023. The application form and more information can be found at https://hutchgov.com/520/SAFE-Sidewalk-Program.
