The Closet

Our organization always appreciates the generosity and involvement of people like you, especially when it comes to The Closet! Clothing is a worry that children and teens should never have to be anxious over. The Closet helps provide clothing, shoes, and other basic essentials to children in care free of charge in order to help reduce the out-of-pocket costs for foster families and reu

nited families. The Closet has clothing ranging from sizes Preemie to Teen and also offers special seasonal items like coats and bathing suits. Additionally, we provide cribs, strollers, and other basic needs. The Closet is a resource where families can find these items in excellent condition in order to eliminate the stigma of foster care. We believe kids in foster care deserve the WORLD as much as any other kid in it! The Closet empowers kids to have the confidence and self-worth that we already see in them. We rely on excellent-condition donations from our local communities to ensure a full and diverse closet. Pillow Pack Program
Wings started the “Pillow Pack Program” in 2016, and continues to this day. Children entering foster care may have nothing but the shirt on their back (and it is often in the wrong size!). With short notice and limited on-hand supplies, foster families are often running around last-minute gathering what they THINK a new child will need. Our Pillow Pack Program minimizes the stress of preparing for an incoming child by providing some basic necessities for them. Each colorful pillowcase includes a pair of pajamas, socks & underwear/diapers & wipes, and an age-appropriate comfort item (stuffed animal, blanket, etc.). These bags are distributed to local foster care agency offices and can also be requested by caseworkers, foster, and relative/kinship families. Other Assistance – The Closet also supports children working in the Child Protection system, Public Health Nursing, Juvenile Probations, and other agencies, as appropriate. The Closet Board members work closely with professionals to help as many children as possible, acknowledging the primary population we serve are children in foster care and others may need to be denied, based on available resources. Village! With warmer weather knocking on our door, we have started moving our storage space to the summer clothes and have discovered we have a few gaps to fill in sizes:

2) 4T shorts, summer PJs, joggers
3) 3T boys summer PJs

We are currently accepting donations for summer clothes, but the sizes above are ASAP needs. Please message the page directly for drop off instructions.

Also, as you make the switches in your own homes to warmer weather, if your clan has grown out of snowpants we are always on the lookout for them come winter!

Villiage, it is Giving Tuesday. The Closet is blessed to give out so much throughout the year. We give confidence to teens going into new schools with new clothes. We give security to little ones coming into care with blankets or stuffies that become constants in a changing atmosphere. We give support, a hand up, a cheerleader squad to families entering the fray that is foster care, Kinship care, adoptive placement.

If you would like to help us continue to give in these ways, please consider a monetary donation to:

Villiage, as you start preparing for our lovely season of snow, perhaps you've got some snow pants your household has outgrown. We would love to pass them along to have more adventures in the winter wonderland of Minnesota. Remember making snow angels or snowpeople, snow ball fights, and sledding? Gosh, it's a lot more fun with a pair of warm snow pants on!

Reach out directly for drop off instructions, all sizes and colors are so appreciated!

Village, we come today in thanks for the many amazing groups we have here in our village. We wanted to take this opportunity to thank some in particular who have blessed us recently:

The Faith Lutheran Church - Hutchinson, MN community-the brand new clothing, pajamas, boots donated are just the most recent example of them showing up to meet our needs.

The Post 96 American Legion Hutchinson, MN-the monetary donations they gave us allow us to respond promptly to specialty needs by purchasing the required supplies outright.

The MidCountry Bank-their tie-blankets donated after their day of giving are going out to our community kids, keeping them wrapped up warm in the knowledge our community cares.

The 12 Ordinary Women-a group anonymously answering pleas for support in our county, who provided gloves, Christmas presents, warm boots and so much more.

Village-our world is a GOOD place. We are supported, encouraged, and strengthened by the spirit of giving. Take these thanks as motivation to go out into the world and create the good you want to see!
