The Closet
Our organization always appreciates the generosity and involvement of people like you, especially when it comes to The Closet! Clothing is a worry that children and teens should never have to be anxious over. The Closet helps provide clothing, shoes, and other basic essentials to children in care free of charge in order to help reduce the out-of-pocket costs for foster families and reu
nited families. The Closet has clothing ranging from sizes Preemie to Teen and also offers special seasonal items like coats and bathing suits. Additionally, we provide cribs, strollers, and other basic needs. The Closet is a resource where families can find these items in excellent condition in order to eliminate the stigma of foster care. We believe kids in foster care deserve the WORLD as much as any other kid in it! The Closet empowers kids to have the confidence and self-worth that we already see in them. We rely on excellent-condition donations from our local communities to ensure a full and diverse closet. Pillow Pack Program
Wings started the “Pillow Pack Program” in 2016, and continues to this day. Children entering foster care may have nothing but the shirt on their back (and it is often in the wrong size!). With short notice and limited on-hand supplies, foster families are often running around last-minute gathering what they THINK a new child will need. Our Pillow Pack Program minimizes the stress of preparing for an incoming child by providing some basic necessities for them. Each colorful pillowcase includes a pair of pajamas, socks & underwear/diapers & wipes, and an age-appropriate comfort item (stuffed animal, blanket, etc.). These bags are distributed to local foster care agency offices and can also be requested by caseworkers, foster, and relative/kinship families. Other Assistance – The Closet also supports children working in the Child Protection system, Public Health Nursing, Juvenile Probations, and other agencies, as appropriate. The Closet Board members work closely with professionals to help as many children as possible, acknowledging the primary population we serve are children in foster care and others may need to be denied, based on available resources.
