We send out a huge congratulations to Deepa, a 12th grade sponsorship student and a young lady who has grown up in our children’s home. Due to her excellence and hard work in education, we enrolled her last year into a special school in the city. She has impressed everyone, and was recently elected captain of the blue house for her entire school (everyone in the school is in one of four houses). This is a high level of leadership where she bears a lot of responsibility daily and for special school events. Congrats, Deepa, on receiving this high honor!

The parents of over 250 children showed up this week to get their children’s midterm reports. Many of our children’s parents never attended school themselves, but are very eager for their children to be educated and do well in school. Our students worked hard and it showed on their reports! Congrats, kids!!👏🏼⭐️👍🏻

Recently, our home kids enjoyed a few days at the beach. It was our first trip with everyone since before Covid! The kids loved riding the waves, collecting starfish, seeing fishermen bring in their catch in the morning, visiting the wholesale market, and shopping for souvenirs. Many of them had never been outside of Kolkata before this, so special memories were made!

To celebrate completing 20 years on June 1st, we had a special staff banquet honoring those who have served 5, 10, 15, and even 20 years with us! We also gave out awards for biggest heart, most helpful, best attendance, staff of the year, teacher of the year, and VIP staff of the year.
Each prize came with a bonus.
We especially congratulate Ruksar on completing 20 years with us! She faithfully cooks, cleans, helps our students, and makes coffee for the staff. What a blessing our employees are to us and many others!

After the elections, there were military barricades that limited people’s movements in and out of the area due to unrest. People were unable to get out for food and many could not work. We were able to distribute over 500 pounds of food and supplies to our students in this area. They were especially excited about the mangoes! 🥭
We are thankful things have returned mostly to normal although many small businesses remain shut down.

Meet Anjali! She is a kind and helpful soul who, in her free time, finds joy in singing, dancing, and lending a hand to her mother in the kitchen. She dares to dream big, aspiring to become a singer one day! Her favorite subjects in school are English and social studies. She loves coming to the center to surround herself with friends and to learn new things. This coming year, she hopes to explore the wonders of the zoo or an amusement park. Anjali's spirit remains unbroken, living with her mother, father, and two brothers in a small one-room home in the slums, where her father works hard in a lead factory, and her mother works as a household maid.

Meet Saurav! He is a polite, humble, and friendly young boy who loves riding a bike, playing soccer, and playing cricket. He likes going to school to learn the alphabet and study math. Saurav lives with his father, mother, sibling, and grandparents. His father works as a maintenance cleaner and struggles with alcoholism. The family lives in a rented, one-room home where they cook indoors and use a community restroom.

In India, 10th grade students have to pass intense national exams that go on for several weeks and cover many different subjects. We are proud to announce that all 16 of our students passed their exams and did very well! Congrats!!

Meet Iqra. Though quiet, she is very kind and loves dancing, drawing, and watching cartoons. She likes coming to school to play with playdough, complete puzzles, and learn English. Iqra lives with her parents, older brother, and grandparents. Her father works in a flip-flop factory when work is available, and her mother is a homemaker. Her brother has a hole in his heart and needs surgery for it. The family lives in a rented, one-room home without indoor plumbing.
