Message from our Founder:

I have been in the rescue business for 15 years and recently decided to go public due to the high rise in abused and abandoned horses. We are also starting up a children's program for kids to visit and interact with horses/ponies and to be educated on the proper care of them. Also those who decide to take on the responsibility of owning an equine of their own. Any fosters or adoptions will have a binding contract and any member of Lil Wranglers LLC will be able to check the homes where they will be taken to. This page is a work in progress so please check back daily for more news and updates! Be sure to check out our Blog Spot : http://lilwranglersrescue.blogspot.com/

The way we treat animals is changing. Slowly, but it’s changing.

Illinois bans horse sl*ughter for human consumption, shutting down its last facility 🐎⚖️

There’s something deeply inspiring about how laws reflect changing attitudes toward animals. Illinois’ decision is a prime example of that. For many, horses are not simply animals but loyal companions. This ban represents a shift in how horses are valued, offering relief to those who have fought for their protection.

In 2007, Illinois passed the Horse Meat Act, making it illegal to slughter horses for human consumption or sell horse meat. Signed into law by Governor Rod Blagojevich, this law had a direct impact on Cavel International, the last horse slughter plant in the state. As the law took effect, the facility could no longer operate, ending the local industry.

While the ban stopped horse sl*ughter within Illinois, the global debate continues as some horses are still transported overseas. Still, Illinois made a strong statement about how horses should be treated in the state. It remains a critical step in advancing animal welfare. Should other places follow suit?
