May is Preeclampsia Awareness Month, and World Preeclampsia Day is May 22 💗💙
(Pink + blue honor both mom and baby.)

Preeclampsia affects about 1 in 12 pregnancies in the U.S. It can develop suddenly and impact both mom and baby—sometimes leading to premature birth or life-threatening complications.

Warning signs may include:
• High blood pressure
• Swelling (especially in the face and hands)
• Severe headaches
• Vision changes
• Sudden weight gain
But sometimes there are no obvious symptoms at all.

What causes preeclampsia?
There isn’t just one cause. It’s believed to involve a combination of:
• Placental development issues
• Genetic factors
• Certain health conditions or first pregnancies
• Environmental and lifestyle factors

*And it can happen to anyone*

Many cases are missed or not recognized early—which is why awareness is so important.

⚠️ Postpartum preeclampsia can also occur up to 6 weeks after birth too.

Researchers across the U.S., including in Texas, are working to better understand, detect, and prevent it earlier.

Tragically, at least one baby dies from NEC every day.

Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is a serious, sudden intestinal disease that primarily affects premature and medically fragile infants. It is one of the leading causes of death in extremely preterm babies.

This devastating condition can progress quickly, often leaving families and medical teams with very little time to respond.

Each May 17th, we recognize NEC Awareness Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness, honoring the babies affected, and supporting families whose lives have been forever changed by NEC.

🎗️ Awareness matters. Early recognition matters. Research matters. And most of all, these tiny lives matter.
