The West Virginia State Parks (Statewide) Foundation Inc., formed in 1998 is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to “preserve, protect, and enhance West Virginia State Parks, Forests, and Rail Trails by providing leadership in communication, funding, and advocacy in partnership with individua
l Park Foundations.” Membership in our foundations is made up of park advocates, local leaders, and others who understand the incredible value our park system brings to the state and its continued legacy. Since their inception, state park foundations have contributed more than $ 24 million to projects on WV State Parks, Forest and Rail Trails. The West Virginia State Park system under the purview of the Division of Natural Resources includes 35 state parks, 9 state forests, and 2 rail trails in 35 counties around the state.
