Jeepers! We're so wonderfully busy this spring, it's hard to keep up!
On May 12, we presented six $500 scholarships to graduating seniors at Hurricane High School. Hurricane Valley Rotary awards these scholarships every year. A few of the awardees are pictured in this post with Rotary Scholarship Coordinator Jackie Susnik and President-Elect Bruce Cole.
They are open to anyone, but we primarily look at students who were active in the school's Interact Club, the Junior ROTC, and Scouting. Interact is the high school level of Rotary. Students focus on how to serve others in the community and develop teamwork and leadership skills.
Application forms for the Hurricane Valley Rotary scholarships will be available sometime in March. Interested students will benefit from being part of the Interact Club at HHS and make themselves more competitive for the Rotary scholarship.

Today is the birthday of Paul Harris, the founder of Rotary. In 1905, Harris organized the first Rotary Club "in fellowship and friendship" with three clients and local businessmen. His initial goal was solely to create a club of professional and business men for friendship and fellowship. Soon, Harris realized that Rotary needed a greater purpose. When Harris was elected as third president of the Chicago Rotary Club in 1907, the club initiated its first public service project, the construction of public toilets in Chicago.
Today, Rotary is a global network of more than 1.2 million neighbors, friends, and leaders. They volunteer their skills and resources to solve issues and address the needs of their communities.
Rotary welcomes people of all backgrounds and walks of life. Email us at [email protected] to see how Rotary fits you. We meet at noon every Tuesday in Room 107 of the Hurricane Community Center.

What is this Rotary Club thing? It's all about people, including your neighbors, colleagues and others in Hurricane Valley working together to create lasting impact on your community and around the globe. World Water Day is March 22. Through water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) programs, Rotary’s millions of members mobilize resources, form partnerships, and invest in infrastructure and training that yield long-term change.
Clean water, sanitation, and hygiene education are basic necessities for a healthy environment and a productive life. When people have access to clean water and sanitation, waterborne diseases decrease, children stay healthier and attend school more regularly, and mothers can spend less time carrying water and more time helping their families.
Check out the people of action in Hurricane Valley and lend a hand. Email [email protected] or call 410-903-0595.

One of the goals all Rotary Clubs have is to develop the next generation of leaders, providing fundamentals to make the world a better place and make peace a priority. Utah Rotary Club District 5420 is sponsoring its annual youth leadership development event June 24-27, 2026 at Wasatch Academy in Mount Pleasant, Utah.

They may apply at: https://www.ismyrotaryclub.org/App/?ID=346 or use the QR code accompanying this post.

The deadline for applications is April 1, 2026. Incoming high school sophomores, juniors and seniors will gain life-long leadership skills and friendships through this 4-day camp while having fun and making connections.

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, or RYLA, a Rotary International program, is an intensive leadership program developed for youth. It is designed to build passion, resilience, determination, gratitude and the value of Service Above Self.
Students do not have to have a prior connection to Rotary to attend.
