World Mental Health Day

One of the most important things we can give young people is a place where they know they belong.

A place where someone notices when they’re having a hard day. Where friendships are built. Where trusted adults show up consistently. Where encouragement is given freely, mistakes are met with patience, and no one has to pretend they’re okay when they aren’t.

That kind of community matters.

Today, on World Mental Health Day, we’re reminded that supporting mental health doesn’t always require having the perfect words. Sometimes it looks like listening. Checking in. Being patient. Including someone. Creating a space where people feel safe enough to be themselves.

As coaches, parents, teammates, and friends, we all have the opportunity to be that person for someone else.

Take care of yourself. Take care of each other. And never underestimate the difference it can make to simply let someone know they belong.

UTYESS YOUTH COUNCIL SPOTLIGHT
Meet Sophie Dunn | Wasatch Wing & Clay

We’re excited to introduce Sophie Dunn, a 17-year-old athlete representing Wasatch Wing & Clay on the UTYESS Youth Council!

Sophie has been involved in shooting sports for two years, with Trap and Sporting Clays being her favorite disciplines. For her, shooting is about more than competition. It’s about building friendships, finding a community, and continually challenging herself to grow.

Sophie joined the Youth Council because she wants to make sure athletes have a voice. Her goal is to gather feedback from her teammates and help bring those perspectives to conversations across the state.

One thing that stood out to us was Sophie’s perspective on competition:

“I would love to see less competition between person to person and more competition with your past self. Focus on you and getting better, not on beating everyone. Progress comes from within.”

That mindset is exactly the kind of leadership we hope to encourage through the Youth Council.

This season, Sophie hopes to help build a council where members support one another, work together, and create a strong sense of community. She’s also working toward a personal goal of winning an HOA title!

And one thing Sophie wants everyone to know about her?

“I will ALWAYS look out for the little guy.”

We’re excited to have Sophie representing Wasatch Wing & Clay and bringing her perspective, teamwork, and dedication to the UTYESS Youth Council!
Let’s show her some love!

We love seeing one of our UTYESS teams, Davis County Clays, getting this recognition!

This is exactly what youth shooting sports are about — giving young athletes a place to belong, compete, build confidence, set individual goals, and support one another along the way.

We’re incredibly proud of the athletes, coaches, parents, and volunteers at Davis County Clays and all of our UTYESS teams across Utah who continue to grow this sport and create opportunities for our youth.

Great job representing UTYESS, Davis County Clays! Keep breaking targets!

What may sound like a loud afternoon in the foothills above Bountiful is actually the sound of a growing youth sport.

We’re excited to officially get the UTYESS Instagram up and running!

And what better way to kick things off than by celebrating the people who make such a huge impact on our athletes.

Happy National Coaches Day to all of the incredible coaches across UTYESS! Thank you for the time, patience, knowledge, and dedication you give to youth shooting sports. You teach far more than how to break targets—you help build confidence, discipline, sportsmanship, resilience, and a love for the sport.

We’re excited to use this page to highlight our athletes, coaches, teams, events, and everything happening throughout UTYESS this season.

Give us a follow, share the page, and help us grow our UTYESS community!
