We work through the principals and school counselors to reac
h children of need. We purchase shoes for Pre-K through 8th grades. We purchase shoes twice a year. Once in March and again in September. Most children’s feet grow half a size every 4 to 6 months. With this schedule, children most likely will be wearing shoes that fit their feet throughout the year.
100% of the monies that we receive go directly towards the purchase of new shoes. We partner with Dick’s Sporting Goods to purchase the best quality shoes as these shoes are the only pair of shoes the child will have to wear. Putnam Shoes for Children was formed to help children to blend in with other children, not stand apart due to their economic level. Such a simple thing as having a good pair of shoes to wear has such a huge impact on a child's self-esteem, their ability to fit in at school, & their ability to concentrate in class. One of the most obvious signs of a child living in poverty is a child wearing worn or ill-fitting shoes. To date, our program has purchased approximately 5,650 pairs of new, quality shoes for children of need that is measured just for their feet! These children must attend school whether they have proper fitting shoes or not. Their families must choose whether to buy food or shoes. We are trying to help these children so that each child will not be defined by their economic level but by their abilities to succeed. We thank you for finding our organization worthy of your support! Thank you! Angie Williams, Executive Director Heartbeat of the Valley, Inc dba Putnam Shoes For Children
