The H is here to stay!
And join the mayor for a Saturday hike.
In the Loop – April 13, 2026
The “H” on the hill has stood as a symbol of our identity in Hurricane City for more than 100 years.
Over the years, the H has been located on private property, and I’m grateful to the landowners who have cooperated in the continued access to maintain the H and light it for special events. As the property has been passed down through generations, concerns about access have understandably increased. Recently, the full 80-acre parcel, including the H, was put up for sale.
I’m happy to report that the city has now entered into an earnest money agreement to purchase this property. This step will allow us to preserve the H permanently for our community.
Looking ahead, we plan to make thoughtful improvements to the area while keeping its natural beauty intact. These may include better access, walking trails, picnic areas, and eventually adding lighting to the H so it can be enjoyed even more. My goal is to enhance the space without taking away from the landscape that makes it special.
This is a meaningful achievement for our city, and I’m proud of the work that’s been done to make it possible. I believe it will be a lasting benefit for our residents and a symbol future generations can continue to appreciate.
As I mentioned in the recent Hurricane City Newsletter, one of my goals is to better engage with the community by hosting casual activities where residents can meet with me and spend time visiting together. I’d like to invite you to join me for a new weekly activity designed to bring us together in a relaxed setting. Our first event will be a hike this Saturday, April 18, at 8:00 a.m. We’ll meet at the West Knoll Trail, located off 600 North near 1000 West.
I hope you’ll come out, enjoy the morning, and take the opportunity to visit with me. It’s a great way for us to connect, stay active, and appreciate the place we call home.
