ng's that use a Positive Peer Approach to help those seeking Recovery find their true meaning and purpose in life. Taking Back Ohio was started by a few close friends in recovery at the Sandusky Artisans Recovery Community Center in 2014 and welcomes anyone and everyone seeking Recovery from Mental Health challenges or substance use disorder as well as any supporters. This meeting is unlike any other recovery meeting that you have ever gone to!
>Taking Back Ohio is not a twelve-step meeting, nor is it faith based. We welcome those utilizing MAT as a way of achieving Recovery from SUD and all pathways to Recovery. The group chose for the meeting to be like this so that anyone from the outside who had skepticism or fear related to going to a recovery meeting would feel open to try this out! TBO HIGHLY RECOMMENDS THIS TRAINING! 👊💙

If you have the opportunity to attend a Mental Health First Aid training—especially if you are a Peer Recovery Supporter (CPRS)—we strongly encourage you to take advantage of it.

As peer supporters, we regularly walk alongside people who may be experiencing mental health challenges, substance use challenges, or a crisis. The more tools we have to recognize what someone may be experiencing, respond appropriately, and connect them with the right support, the better equipped we are to serve our communities.

Mental Health First Aid is one of those trainings that can strengthen the work you’re already doing—and these are skills that extend far beyond our professional roles.

This upcoming training is FREE, and breakfast snacks and lunch are provided. 🙌

If you’re a CPRS—or simply someone who wants to be better prepared to help another human being when they’re struggling—we definitely recommend checking this one out.

Keep learning. Keep growing. Keep showing up for people. 💙

WE ARE OHIOANS THRIVING IN RECOVERY. 👊

If you are looking to learn more about Mental Health First Aid, consider registering for the Sept 25 training in Tiffin. This training program teaches you how to recognize when an adult may be facing a mental health or substance use issue. You will learn how to offer support and connect them to helpful resources.

NEW WEEK. SAME PRIORITY: YOUR RECOVERY. 👊💙

Before the calendar fills up…
Before work gets crazy…
Before everybody starts needing something from you…

Make room for YOU.

Recovery isn’t something we squeeze in when everything else is finished. Recovery is what makes everything else possible.

So as you head into this week, ask yourself:

💙 Have I made time for my recovery?
💙 Am I staying connected instead of isolating?
💙 Am I getting enough rest?
💙 Am I taking care of my body AND my mind?
💙 When was the last time I did something simply because it was good for me?

Self-care isn’t selfish. And neither is protecting your recovery.

Maybe this week that means getting to a meeting. Maybe it’s calling somebody before things get heavy. Maybe it’s taking a walk, hitting the gym, eating a decent meal, getting some sleep, setting a boundary, laughing with your people—or simply giving yourself permission to have a bad day without turning it into a bad life.

Whatever your pathway looks like…

KEEP SHOWING UP. 👊

And if connection is what you need this week, we’ve got a chair waiting for you.

🔹 MONDAY | 6–7 PM
Erie County Health Department — Sandusky

🔹 TUESDAY | 6–7 PM
The Oak House — Port Clinton

🔹 WEDNESDAY | 6–7 PM
Erie County Health Department — Sandusky

All pathways. Peer-led. Hope-focused.
No judgment. No shame. Just people helping people.

👇 What’s ONE thing you’re doing for your recovery or self-care this week?

Put it in the comments. You might give somebody else an idea they desperately needed today.

YOU ARE NOT ALONE. YOU ARE NOT POWERLESS.

💚 SIX MONTHS. ONE DAY AT A TIME. AND LOOK AT THAT SMILE!! 👊

Help us make some noise for Kathy and her latest recovery milestone — 6 MONTHS OF CONTINUOUS RECOVERY!! 🎉💚

At last Monday’s TBO meeting at the Erie County Health Department, we had the absolute honor of celebrating Kathy and HALF A YEAR of choosing recovery, showing up, doing the work, growing, healing, and becoming an inspiration to so many around her.

And this one means a whole lot to us.

Kathy has been with us since DAY ONE. 💚

We’ve had the privilege of walking alongside her from the very beginning, and watching the growth that has happened over these past six months has been incredible.

Kathy, WE ARE SO DAMN PROUD OF YOU!! 👊💚

Thank you for trusting us. Thank you for allowing us to be part of your journey. And thank you for showing others what can happen when we keep putting one day in front of another.

And we’re nowhere near finished. 😉

We can’t wait to watch you continue to grow, thrive, and inspire the people coming behind you.

👇 TBO FAM — FLOOD THESE COMMENTS WITH SOME LOVE FOR KATHY!! 💚💚💚

Drop her a 💚, a 👊, congratulate her, and SHARE THIS POST so someone out there who is struggling today can see what’s possible.

💜 TODAY, WE REMEMBER. WE HONOR. WE ACT.

August 31 is International Overdose Awareness Day—a day to remember the lives lost to overdose, stand beside the families and friends who carry those losses, and remind those who are still struggling that their lives matter.

Behind every number was a person.
A son. A daughter. A mother. A father. A brother. A sister. A spouse. A friend.

Someone who was loved. 💜

Today, we honor them by refusing to stay silent.

We talk about overdose.
We talk about substance use without shame.
We carry naloxone.
We learn how to use it.
We support people wherever they are.
And we keep fighting the stigma that prevents people from asking for help.

Because overdose is preventable—and recovery is possible.

At Taking Back Ohio, we’ve seen what can happen when someone is given another chance. We’ve watched people reconnect with family, rebuild their lives, discover purpose, celebrate recovery milestones, and become the hope for the person coming behind them.

That is why we keep showing up. 💜👊

Today, we ask our TBO family to help us spread this message.

💜 LIKE in remembrance.
💜 SHARE so this message reaches someone who may need it.
💜 COMMENT with a 💜 for someone you remember today—or share their name so we can remember them with you.

BE THE VOICE.
BE THE HOPE.
BE THE CHANGE.
