Hello everyone, my name is Tha Dah Htoo, but I go by Dah. I am 25 years old and graduated from cosmetology school in July 2025. In addition to my cosmetology experience, I hold an associate degree in business, which provided me with the skills and confidence to open and operate my own salon. In August of last year, I proudly opened my salon, Greenhouse Allure LLC. It has already been six months, and I look forward to continuing to grow professionally in the beauty industry.
After working countless jobs just to get by, I realized I wanted something more stable—not only for myself, but for my children and the generations that come after them. I have always dreamed of owning my own business and creating a future built on passion and purpose.
Beauty became that passion for me because it allows endless creativity and self-expression. Since I was young, I have always been drawn to art and the freedom that comes with creating something meaningful. The beauty industry gives me the opportunity to turn that lifelong love for creativity into a career where I can help others feel confident while building something lasting for my family.
The services offered at my salon include nail services, which are my specialty, as well as hair and waxing services. I am committed to providing quality care and helping each client look and feel their best.
My favorite trend in the beauty industry right now is definitely the nail sculptures I’ve been seeing on Instagram. I love how much creativity and inspiration can be found online, and it motivates me to explore new designs and techniques for my clients.
The thing I love most about working in the beauty industry is meeting new people and learning about them and the community. I truly enjoy building relationships with my clients and seeing their reactions after a service. The trust they place in me means a lot, and it is incredibly rewarding to know I can help them feel confident and become the person they want to be. Knowing that I played a part in helping them feel their best is what makes my work so fulfilling.
The biggest challenge I’ve faced is working alone and figuring everything out on my own. In school, I had access to a wide range of teachers and classmates to guide and support me, so adjusting to being solely responsible for all aspects of my salon has been an important learning experience.
To my Karen/K’nyaw community, I want to share that even though many of us come from refugee camps and may not start with the same opportunities as others, hard work and dedication can help you achieve anything you set your mind to. No matter the disadvantages we were born into, your determination can lead you to success and fulfillment.
To all of my clients, I cannot express enough how grateful I am for each of you. Everything I have built and achieved would not be possible without your support. I truly appreciate your patience, kindness, and trust in me. Thank you for allowing me to do what I love and for being such an important part of my journey.
