Sharing for Linkwood-Salem Volunteer Fire Company, Inc.

You asked for oyster fritters... we listened! We are firing up the oyster griddles on Saturday, October 24th to cook up oyster fritters and homemade soup, chili, stewed tomatoes, and hot dogs. We will also have plenty of indoor shopping for you! Mark your calendars! We hope to see you! 😊

Still in the hunt for some pumpkins for Hurlock Elementary. Anyone have connections???

Do you have a bunch of small pumpkins that you’d be willing to donate on behalf of the Hurlock Elementary School’s Trunk or Treat on October 30th?

💙💛 VISION AWARENESS — DAY 10 👁️🦁

VISION WEEK MAY BE ENDING, BUT OUR COMMITMENT TO SIGHT NEVER DOES!

Today marks the conclusion of Lions International’s Weeks of Service for Vision, October 8–18, 2026.

Over the past 10 days, we’ve shared reminders about eye health, protecting our vision, recognizing potential problems, and the important work Lions do around the world.

But perhaps the most important message is this:

YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE A LION TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

👓 Donate used eyeglasses.

👁️ Encourage someone to get a recommended eye examination.

💙 Help a neighbor find resources for needed eye care.

🦁 Consider becoming a Lion and joining others who share a heart for service.

Here in Hurlock, our Tim McCarter Memorial Eyeglass Program continues year-round, collecting used eyeglasses for recycling and potential reuse while also providing financial assistance to qualified individuals who need new prescription glasses.

If you have eyeglasses to donate or know someone who might benefit from assistance, please contact the Hurlock Lions Club.

We would also love to hear from anyone interested in joining us as we continue serving our community!

🌎 From our little corner of Maryland’s Eastern Shore to communities around the world, Lions are united by a simple belief:

Where there’s a need, there’s a Lion.

Thank you for following along during Vision Week. Together, we can help create clearer vision and brighter futures!

💙💛🦁 A LITTLE RAIN CAN’T DAMPEN THE SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY! 🚗🌧️

On Saturday, members of the Hurlock Lions Club attended the Poor Boys Yacht Club Annual Car Show at the Hurlock American Legion!

While the soggy weather kept attendance a little lower than usual, it was still a great day filled with fun, fellowship, and community spirit!

Our Lions were on hand at our vendor tables, sharing information about Lions membership and selling chances on our Scratch-Off Lottery Ticket Raffle. 🎟️

We were also delighted to see our newest Honorary Member, Miss Doris Christopher, lending a helping hand at the Hurlock American Legion Auxiliary’s Cake Wheel! 🎂 At 100 years young, Miss Doris continues to demonstrate that you’re never too old to make a difference in your community! ❤️

A special THANK YOU to everyone who stopped by our tables, purchased raffle chances, or simply took a few minutes to chat with us. Your continued support means so much!

And congratulations to the Poor Boys Yacht Club for another successful event despite Mother Nature’s less-than-perfect cooperation!

Rain or shine, the Hurlock Lions are proud to be part of this wonderful community!

💙💛 VISION AWARENESS — DAY 9 🌎🦁

DID YOU KNOW THAT VISION HAS BEEN A LIONS PRIORITY FOR MORE THAN 100 YEARS?

In 1925, Helen Keller challenged Lions to become “knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness.”

Lions accepted that challenge, and vision-related service has remained one of the organization’s defining missions ever since.

Today, Lions Clubs around the world support:

👓 Eyeglass recycling and distribution

👁️ Vision screenings and eye health education

🔬 Vision research and efforts to prevent blindness

💙 Assistance for individuals with vision-related needs

Here in Hurlock, our club has proudly served the community since February 11, 1938.

Our Tim McCarter Memorial Eyeglass Program is one way we continue that worldwide tradition of service right here in northern Dorchester County.

And we’re proud to be part of something much bigger than ourselves — a worldwide family of Lions working to make life better for others.

💛 TODAY’S VISION CHALLENGE: Tell someone about the work Lions do to help preserve and restore sight. You might inspire our next volunteer!

Honoring Our Past, Serving Our Future.
