Today is World Hunger Day. In recognition of this important day, we’re highlighting the SHSU Food Pantry. 🍽

The Food Pantry at Sam Houston State University supports SHSU students facing food insecurity. The Food Pantry is more than a resource; it's a hub for educational workshops, support, and a stepping stone towards a brighter future for our students.

Last year, the SHSU Food Pantry distributed over 60,000 pounds of food to more than 1,200 people. Thanks to the generosity of 385 donors, approximately $42,000 was given to support the Food Pantry last year. 🧡

Thank you to the Enterprise Mobility Houston office who recently came to learn about and visit the SHSU Food Pantry.

Enterprise has supported SHSU in various ways since 2012, and hired many Bearkats because of their work ethic and performance.

Thank you to Brookshire Brothers Charitable Foundation for their generosity in selecting the Sam Houston State University Food Pantry as a 2025 Grant Recipient.

For more than 100 years, Brookshire Brothers has made charitable contributions to aid in the fight against food insecurity and in support of programs and initiatives focused on education and the health and wellbeing of the communities it serves. In addition to regular donations made by the corporation, the BBCF furthers the company’s mission by assisting additional agencies on a larger scale each year. Funded by Brookshire Brothers’ generous vendor partners, the charitable foundation has given away more than two million dollars over the past two decades.

“Our board of directors is truly inspired by everything these organizations are able to accomplish, and we are honored to provide resources to help them further all the good they do," said Brookshire Brothers Charitable Foundation Board Chairman Sally Alvis.

Holiday Food Distribution
Sam Houston State University, in partnership with the Houston Food Bank, is hosting a Holiday Food Distribution to assist Walker County, surrounding communities, and Bearkat students and families during this holiday season.

Date & Time: Friday, December 20, 2024 | 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Location: Gibbs Ranch, 1143 TX-75, Huntsville, TX

This drive-through food distribution aims to provide essential food supplies to those in need. For safety and efficiency, participants are kindly asked to remain in their vehicles. Volunteers will load food directly into vehicles, ensuring a smooth and seamless process.
