LOVEhuntsville

LOVEhuntsville "JUSTICE IS WHAT LOVE LOOKS LIKE IN PUBLIC" - Dr. Cornel West This love knows no age, no race, no creed, no color, no gender, no disability, no religion.

LOVE.STORY.INSPIRATION.RESPONSE

The people of Huntsville love one another, and it shows in their stories. This love is neither boastful, nor proud. It cares more for others than for self. It does not keep score. It always looks for
the best. This love is shown to victims of human trafficking, violence, and loneliness. It is given to those seeking education, a roof over their heads, or a meal to

keep them warm. It is exemplified when neighbors help clean up storm damage, when barbers provide school supplies and a fresh hair cut to help kids start school right, and when a little girl asks for donations to help feed the hungry (rather than presents) for
their birthday. It is the desire of LOVEhuntsville to awaken souls to real causes in our city, inspire hearts, and encourage a response within a community of people that want to make a difference. The goal of LOVEhuntsville is not simply awareness, not just story, but action. WHY TO WE TELL STORIES? Story is as old as cave paintings and as new as that joke you heard at the water cooler. Story is as infinite as the bounds of the universe and as intimate as a shared whisper. Story helps remember the birth of a first child and the death of a parent. Story is informative. Story is entertaining. Story is persussive. Story tells us where we have been, where we are, and where we are going. Story is our medium. Love is our message. WHY DO WE UTILIZE ART? Art - paintings, photographs, music, video - tells story in a way that goes deeper than mere words could ever convey. It gives you a pre-language look in to the joy, pain, grief, or exuberance inside the heart of an artist. Art has been used for centuries to tell story.

It is the heart of LOVEHuntsville to engage issues of love, hope, and justice in the city through art and story. What you may not know is that this year's LOVEHuntsville Christmas project is to help MindGear Labs raise support for their Santa's Lab! This project has engineers and volunteers ("Elves") using 3D printers and laser cutting tools to build customized toys for kids in need. We are lighting a Christmas Tree, one light for every $10 in donations, towards offsetting the cost of the 350 toys these volunteers will hand build and deliver. Each toy has been selected for the specific child and made unique with their name carved in, favorites sports team, or other personalization. The lighting event and main fund raising day will be in conjunction with the Lowe Mill grand opening of the North Floor on December 20th, but donations can be given online through www.LOVEHuntsville.com. Please share this post to raise awareness and help us bring joy to 350 kids who need more than a gift - they need a personal expression of love this year!

For the second year, MindGear is calling on north Alabama volunteers to help sponsor, design and build custom-made toys for disadvantaged children in Madison County. A group of about 50 volunteers produced 70 wrapped toys in 2013. This year, they hope to make 350.
