Last night Rob Clark and I were late to a Presidential debate watch party. Thank you Sabrina Helm for hosting!
We were late because we were at City Council to support legislation to support naturally affordable, dense housing in Huntsville by legalizing ADUs (accessory dwelling units, aka granny flats).
As depressing as the debate was, the meeting filled me with so much hope. I cannot express how grateful I am to the citizens who came out to speak during public comment in support of our proposed zoning change. Most of us can't realistically do anything about our presidential clusterf*ck other than vote.
But every registered voter within Huntsville city limits can realistically move the needle on our country's number-one issue: Housing. Every registered voter within Huntsville city limits can realistically move the needle on Huntsville's contribution to climate change. We can realistically move the needle on making sure seniors can age in place. We can realistically move the needle on helping house our homeless population. We can realistically move the needle on making sure our adult kids don't have to live with us or move away due to housing costs.
And we can do all this by supporting ADU legalization.
Thank you again to everyone who proved to me last night that Huntsville is more than ready to support smart, kind, compassionate growth.
