Madison County Beekeepers Association The Madison County Beekeepers Association meets on the second Thursday of every odd numbered month (Jan, Mar. May, July etc.) at 6:30 PM.

The object of this Association shall be to assist in checking the spread of bee diseases, to spread information concerning improved methods of production, to secure recognition of the industry at state and county fairs; to inform the public as to the value of honey as food, of the importance of the business of honey production and the value of bees to other crops; and to elevate the business of beekeeping to a place of eminence among agricultural activities.

Well, the work on the new MCBA Apiary is finished. On Wednesday, September 23, Bill Elliott moved 4 colonies of honey bees into the bee yard, and that Saturday we gave tours to the attendees of our “So You Want to be a Beekeeper“ presentation at the Homesteading on a Half-Acre seminar led by ACES. The MCBA wants to thank Dr. Clement Akotsen-Mensah of Alabama A&M and his Agribition staff, Eric Nobles and Tim Smith for their hard work on this project. Also thanks to Allyson Shabel of ACES for all her help in making this a reality. And most of all, to Stephen Langford in leading this project and all the hours of hard work he put in, along with his team, Dale Rohe and Lance Lorio.

A big thank you to all the volunteers who came out to the Agribition Center for the Homesteading on a Half-Acre seminar on Saturday, September 26. After a 45-minute presentation, we spent the rest of the day talking to many very interested possible future beekeepers, answering a lot of good questions, and giving tours of the new MCBA apiary.

Thanks to Stephen Langford, Dale Rohe, Lance Lorio, Lee Hohlfeld, Kathy Biddlecombe and Troy Hawkins for giving up part of their day to encourage new beekeepers.

The new Alabama Beekeepers Association board members out visiting a local club, Sand Mountain Beekeepers! Expect to see more of your new state board this year!

We are currently in the full swing of our Intro To Beekeeping workshop. Last night marked the 2nd class out of the 4 we offer.

We had some folks you may or may not know who visited last night. Newly elected Alabama Beekeepers Association Vice President Brian deAssis and board member representing the Northern District of the state Richard Ramsey.

They are standing alongside the Sandmountain Beekeepers club officers, Barton Calvert treasurer, Chris Gautney Vice President, and Dennis Lambert President.

As a local club, we appreciate the representation and support of the ABA.

We look forward to what good can be done by the new ABA leadership and board members for local clubs like ours.
