BDPA Huntsville Chapter has brought home not one, not two, but all three collegiate IT Showcase places out of 9 talented students from across the country at the 2025 National BDPA conference!

1st place: Marc-Anthony Jones from Oakwood University - Topic: "BRIDGING THE DIGITAL DIVIDE IN UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES THROUGH EDTECH"

2nd place: Faith Warner from University of Alabama - Topic: "SMART SOUND 3D-PRINTED AI INSTRUMENTS FOR MODERN MUSIC EDUCATION"

3rd place: Mauyon Wusu from Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University - Topic: "ASTHMAASSIST: A MACHINE LEARNING APPROACH TO SMART ASTHMA MANAGEMENT USING AIR QUALITY INDEX"

BDPA Huntsville is looking for college students majoring in a technology related studies, to bring their research projects to compete for scholarships!!!! This event is sponsored by Meta Huntsville Data Center.

The Huntsville Collegiate Technology Showcase is an opportunity for students to win scholarships for their research papers locally and possibly nationally. Students from local 2 and 4 year institutions are invited to compete with a 4 page research paper on any innovative technology topic from health IT, cyber security, artificial intelligence, and so on.

The showcase will be held on April 26th and is open to the public. It will be in the Alabama A&M University Arthur Bond Engineering building auditorium at 6PM.

Acceptances are rolling in from coast to coast for Sentinel students!

A few students applied "Early Action" to lock-in their college decisions--including Student Ambassador Co-President, Kyra Richardson, who has earned a coveted seat at Harvard University.

As an inaugural member of ASCTE's first freshman class, we are so proud of all Kyra has accomplished, and we know her future is bright! Congratulations, Kyra. Don't forget to pack a winter coat :)

Just in case you didn't know, over the past year I've hosted a couple of technology events where we teach adults how to do computer coding in a fun, inclusive, and engaging way. These events are open to anybody that has a desire to learn, we'll teach you. It has been a personal mission of mine to expose minorities to STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math). All of our instructors and assistant instructors work in the field but most importantly desire to see more diversity in Information Technology.

Code.Sip.Repeat is my way of changing the status quo, because Tech Has Soul!!! During these events we laugh, eat, learn, network, dance, sip, take a break and do it all over again.

There's only a few days and slots left to join us at the next Code.Sip.Repeat on December 9th in downtown Huntsville at the Times Building. The cost is $40 but the experience and vibes are worth every penny.

If you need a beginner's class we have you covered just show up at 3:30PM with your laptop. Only coming for the main event we'll see you at 6PM.

Congratulations to our students that placed (for the second year in a row) at the 44th Annual National BDPA Conference held in Atlanta this past weekend.

Faith Warner, competed as the only high schooler against collegiates, placing second overall (1st place in 2021 in High School bracket) in the Mobile App Showcase with her app SiteMuse that she designed with Android Studio.

Javon Jennings, placed third in the IT Showcase high school bracket (1st place in 2021) with his presentation titled "The Use of International Writing Systems to Enhance Password Security".

We are very very proud of both of them and wish them the best in the school year as Javon travels to be a first year sophomore at the University of Rhode Island carrying with him 35 credit hours, a full ride scholarship, and many other scholarships. Faith will be going into her junior year at Alabama School of Cyber Technology and Engineering.

It takes a village to raise a child we want to thank their parents for trusting us and believing in what we do.

Many thanks to the BDPA Coordinators Danna Sturdivant, Kareem Dasilva, and Nicole Hoffler for everything they do at the national level for all of the students.
