A beautiful picture of the Depot I found this morning while scrolling for images. This is back when the city took pride in the historic Depot and took pride in Huntsville's history. Now its all about new buildings, endless apartments,offices,resturants,bars and useless things such as a sky bridge.. with soo much money being spent downtown, you would think the first thing you see coming into downtown( let alone arguably the most important building in the citys economic history) would be well kept up and looking great but the city cant even keep up with the landscaping, let alone the building! Time for the city to pass this building to the hands of a preservation trust and get it back to its glory!

Pics I took yesterday of the Huntsville Depot and its current inexcusable state of neglect. My page has over 1k followers and 40k++ page views in 5 days! This depot survived the Civil War and was the economic hub of Huntsville for over 100 years and now its slowly rotting away, so Im creating a movement to save it! Big news coming soon!

40k page views in 4 days, and officially 1k followers! Thankyou everyone, it truly makes me feel good to know people truly care about the Depot and that people are beyond tired of its current condition! I will be moving foward with creating a volunteer organization centered around the Huntsville Depot, and will share that information next week. If you have offered your help please know I am grateful, and that if I havent gotten back to you I will as soon as I am able. Ive recieved over 100 messages and between work, volunteering with two organizations and this my hands are full! Thats the way I prefer it! Lol. Thanks again everyone!

UPDATE ON CONDITION OF DEPOT AND GROUNDS-PLEASE SHARE!!

I just went to take pics of the current conditions of the depot and man, its awful. I had to be discreet because city employees were working on the grounds but there are busted windows everywhere, all the depot and outbuilding window frames are rotted and falling apart, window panes missing multiple places on the depot itself. The locomotive is in a major state of neglect and reeked of urine as did most the area. Everything is overgrown and the covered walkway is about to collapse. This is horrible and there is no excuse for the current state of the depot, outbuildings and the grounds. That's why I am doing what I can to hold the city accountable and get the depot the exposure it needs so it can be restored and used for future generations! Please share these photos, like and share the page and get the word out on the neglect of one of the most historic places in Huntsville! Will also have big news in the next couple of days. Stay tuned!!

Nearly 80 new followers in a day! Pushing close to 800, I hope to get to 1000 by months end! Each new like/follow goes to show the city that we are fed up with the current deteriorating conditions of the depot, we demand change, and we demand it sooner rather than later! The city rightfully took back the depot from Earlyworks over 5 years ago due to the serious mismanagement of the depot and its grounds, but since then its gotten even worse and a has become a haven for the homeless! Change must happen soon! I will br going to the depot tomorrow to do an indepth condition report and will be sharing that with the group as soon as I can. Until then please continue to share the page and get the word out on the condition of the depot and that we will do what we can to turn things around and bring the depot back to its former glory!

ATTENTION MEMBERS!!

looking for someone or possibly two others to help me run this page, reach out to the community to get involved, help get a volunteer group started, etc. I would like to eventually get a committee of volunteers to help form a non profit, start working on a proposal to submit to the city, and get things moving in the right direction! Ofcourse also looking for volunteers to help do clean ups once the weather cools. Its a one man show here and I need all the help I can get!

Hello everybody! Hope all is doing well!

PLEASE SHARE AND GET THE WORD OUT!!!

I know its been a long time since I have made a post, and the past couple of years the page has sat inactive and not being utilized for a purpose BUT, you know what else has sat inactive and unused during this time? Unfortunately The Huntsville Depot. The Depot is slowly falling into a slow state of decay and the city has done nothing about it...with that being said and fall quickly approaching with hopefully cooler temps I thought it time revitalize my efforts to restore the depot, its grounds and open it to the public once again with a new purpose!!

I have thought long and hard about what it could be used for and I think the depot and surrounding buildings would be a great place for a North Alabama History museum. We are the largest city in the state, the most educated per capita, probably the wealthiest metro area in Alabama but have no museum dedicated to the history of North Alabama, Alabama in general both pre statehood and after, and nothing showcasing what has made Norrh Alabama into the great place it is today! We have a massive art museum (which largely isnt used or visted alot) but no true history museum. I think this is a great idea, I myself have a large artifact collection I would be willing to loan, and Im sure if we could get things going others would help as well and could also collaborate with Huntsville Revisited. First thing would be to get a group of volunteers and a non profit started to work on the depot itself but where there is a will, where is most definitely a way! If you have any other ideas the depot could be used for or would like to help please reach out to me. Also please share and get the word out! This page is back active and will remain active in trying to save and restore the depot and its buildings. Thanks and God bless!

Looks like progress is starting to be made at the depot! I'm certain the new group of volunteers will do wonderful things once they have the funds to do so!

Goodmorning everybody! I started this page a little before Covid occured with practically took all the wind out of my sails, so the past few years I have sat back and independently cleaned up trash/paraphernalia from the grounds to make it safe for visitors/children to use and have just waited to see what happens...which nothing has and the grounds are getting worse each and every day...

See this has renewed my vigor and interest into seeing this beauty and its grounds returned back to it's former glory...But I need your help!! I need all of Huntsvilles help!

Please share this post, share this group, and if able reach out to me in regards to planning volunteer days to clean things up, raising funds for improvements, etc...this is a true gem of Huntsville and is the first thing you see coming into downtown. It needs to serve a purpose once again and with ypur help we can make it happen!!!

Went by the depot this morning and noticed that a window pane is out on the 3rd floor..this is the most important floor imo historically because of the confederate grafitti on the walls...hopefully it will be addressed soon!
