Leaving is always hard. We always want to do more but, we know we have done what we could. With your help, we have touched the lives of others.
Saturday after arriving in Purvis, Mississippi we dropped off all of our supplies at the Lamar County Fire Services (EMS). On Sunday after worshipping with the St. Fabian Catholic Church of Hattiesburg, Mississippi community we headed to Harbor Freight, Home Depot and Walmart to collect more supplies. After a picnic lunch we drove into the areas of destruction. We handed out snacks, cold water (it was 83 degrees with full sun), and supplies to residents who were trying to salvage all they could from their home.
We spoke with 3 ladies that did not need anything but directed us to a neighbor who had just undergone surgery for a cancerous tumor in his lung. His mother lives with him and she has dementia. We took him some food and water. Samaritan's Purse was at work with their big equipment clearing huge trees in his yard that had fallen during the storm. We asked them if they needed anything. They said,”We are good, just love on the homeowner.” That’s what it is all about. Working together to help those in need.
We talked with a gentleman who was awakened from sleep when his alarm went off. He went outside to see what was happening and saw insulation swirling in the air. He jumped in his bathtub and with in seconds half of his roof was gone.
Then there was the mother and teenage son who literally downed a bottle of water we gave them. They said they could save one bed and were looking for whatever else they could find. The insulation was bothering them so we gave them masks. She said this wasn’t the way she had planned to spend Mother’s Day.
Today before leaving for home we took what supplies we had left and dropped them off at Purvis High School where the United Cajun Navy will distribute them. We talked with the Principle and the Librarian who were heading up the effort. The football and baseball teams were unloading the supplies people were bringing in.
Real people in a disaster. Just going through life and then disaster hits. It could have been any one of us. That is why we do what we do. And we can do this …..because of each of you through prayer and donations.
If you would like to continue to support us, checks can be made to Saint Joseph Catholic Church-Huntsville, Al please write disaster relief in the memo. They can be mailed or dropped off at the church at 2300 Beasley Av HSV, AL 35816. Or to 213 Dove Hollow Drive Meridianville, AL 35759.
We thank you for your ongoing support.
