As a dad, I'm always looking for opportunities that help my boys grow into strong, capable, godly young men. For our family, Trail Life USA has been one of the best decisions we've made.
Looking back over the past year, I'm amazed at everything we've experienced together. We've marched in the Veterans Day Parade, placed hundreds of flags on veterans' graves at Maple Hill Cemetery, served our community through service projects, hiked incredible places like Cheaha and Walls of Jericho, enjoyed family campouts, canoe expeditions, overnight adventures, Highland Games competitions, Nerf Battle Royale, campfires, and countless outdoor adventures.
As fun as those memories are, that's not what makes Trail Life special.
What has impacted me the most is watching boys grow. I've seen boys become more confident, learn responsibility, step into leadership, serve others, overcome challenges, and build friendships that go far beyond a weekly meeting. I've watched my own sons grow in ways that simply wouldn't have happened sitting behind a screen.
One thing I didn't expect was what Trail Life would do for me. Along the way, I've made some of my closest friends through Trail Life. Standing shoulder-to-shoulder with other dads and mentors who share a desire to raise godly young men has been an incredible blessing. We encourage one another, serve together, laugh together, and build friendships that extend well beyond troop meetings.
I truly believe boys need a place where it's okay to be boys—a place where adventure is encouraged, healthy challenges build confidence, imagination comes alive, and godly men invest in the next generation. Boys need opportunities to lead, to fail and try again, to explore God's creation, and to discover who God created them to be.
That's exactly what we've found in Trail Life.
If you have a son ages 5–17 and are looking for something more than another sport or another screen, I'd love to invite you to come visit our troop. No pressure—just come see what Trail Life is all about.
Our first meeting of the new year is Monday, August 10, and we'd love to have you join us.
