Hmm… let’s see what we can do!!!!

An anonymous donor believes in Oakwood enough to put up $1,000,000!! They will match every gift made between now and June 30th. They just need us to meet them there.

We've raised $73,908 toward the Oakwood University Fund. We need $926,091.94 more, and every gift will be doubled, guaranteed. Every dollar you give funds scholarships, student support, academic programs, infrastructure, and the Oakwood experience that changes lives. This fund is the engine that keeps that experience running.

Share this post. Make your gift. Tag your Oakwood family. Let's finish this. 💙💛

What a time, what a time!! The Annual J. L. Moran - Day in the Park was all it was advertised to be!! Delicious food, hearty fun, and lively fellowship!! The buildings of the Oakwood campus served as the team names for the “Green Mountain Scavenger Hunt”. Color-coded team clues were scattered around the lakefront to be found and completed. Clues like “Find an object that reminds you of your days at Oakwood,” “Make a picture using objects of nature to depict a memory of Oakwood,” “Record a song from your group that was a favorite during your years at Oakwood,” and “Who was the favorite teacher of your group - find an object that starts with the first letter of the name” were a sample of the tasks of the scavenger hunt

Then we sat down to a great meal of “hot dogs”, “burgers”, potato salad, Cole slaw, baked beans, watermelon and cake!

And the Rook cards appeared!! A nature walk and several board games added to time of fellowship and laughter!

Members were reminded of the October Shangwe and the $1000/member fundraising goal - to be met by ticket sales, sponsorship, patrons and family tribute ads!! Members have already started this project to make 2027 graduation even less stressful for graduating seniors by more scholarship funding.

Most people know Tuskegee. Most people know Alabama State. 📚

But there's an HBCU sitting right in the heart of Huntsville that doesn't always get its flowers — and it's been quietly producing excellence since 1896.

Oakwood University was founded on a 360-acre farm in Huntsville, Alabama, by the Seventh-day Adventist Church, originally as a school for formerly enslaved people and their descendants. From those humble beginnings, it grew into a fully accredited four-year university that has shaped generations of Black doctors, nurses, educators, ministers, scientists, and community leaders.

Oakwood has produced some of the most respected voices in Black Adventist life and beyond. Its nursing and health sciences programs have sent Black healthcare professionals into communities across the country. Its theology school has trained preachers and scholars who carry the gospel with both faith and intellect. 🙏🏾

Alabama has more HBCUs than almost any other state — and every single one of them carries a story worth knowing.

If you have a connection to Oakwood University, drop your class year in the comments. Let's celebrate this hidden crown of Black Huntsville. 🏛️✊🏾

More great news!!!

Oakwood University has signed an agreement with Southwestern Adventist University (SWAU) that opens a direct route from Oakwood's Bachelor of Science in Nursing program into SWAU's graduate Nursing Education program.

Under the agreement, qualifying Oakwood BSN graduates who obtain RN licensure, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, and meet SWAU's admission requirements, will receive automatic admission into the graduate program and will also receive an automatic 20% tuition discount. The partnership includes a bilateral structured transition support designed to make the transition from undergraduate study into master's-level work seamless.

As a historically Black university partnering with SWAU, a Hispanic-Serving Institution, the agreement also creates a graduate nursing pipeline anchored in two institutions whose missions center students from communities still underrepresented in healthcare leadership.

The agreement, which will remain in effect for five years, is part of a broader effort within Adventist higher education to strengthen the connection between undergraduate and graduate nursing programs across our shared institutions, while expanding the talent pipeline into nursing leadership and education.
