As summer comes to an end we want to look back and thank the 40 volunteers of all ages from St. Thomas Orthodox Church that came to HongIK Eco Farm in June.

Together, we were able to get so much done in the garden! Thanks to their time and help, we will be able to help more neighbors experiencing food insecurity.

Earlier this year, a heavy rain and some unexpectedly early pests wiped out our zucchinis and cucumbers.

We could have given up on these crops, but we replanted in new locations from seed. We are now pulling in BINS full of their beautiful fruits!

We will not reach the harvest goal we had in mind before the season for each crop (500+), but 200 is better than 0! At Hongik, especially in the face of all the cynicism in the world, we embrace calm pragmatic action aiming for a net positive—even when not a perfect success. In the field and in all of life 🌎❤️

Tool organization is a key part of a successful farm!

We use paint scrapers and wire brushes to clean off our shovels 🪏 And when we can, we use hoes, rakes and files to keep them sharpened 👍
