🔥 Winter Fire Safety Tips for Every Home 🔥

As the temperatures drop, our risk of home fires goes up — especially from heating sources, candles, and overloaded outlets. A few simple precautions can save lives this winter:

✅ Check your smoke detectors — Make sure they’re working and replace batteries twice a year (a good reminder is when you change your clocks).

🚪 Sleep with your bedroom door closed — It slows the spread of smoke and fire, giving you and your loved ones more time to escape.

🪟 Plan your escape — Every family member should know two ways out of each room and a safe meeting spot outside.

🔥 Keep heaters safe — Maintain a 3-foot safety zone around space heaters, and never leave them running unattended.

🕯️ Use candles carefully — Always blow them out before leaving a room or going to sleep.

🔌 Avoid overloading outlets — Use power strips safely and unplug appliances when not in use.

Small habits make a big difference — stay warm, stay safe, and protect what matters most this winter!

🚨 Emergency Preparedness Matters 🚨

Emergencies can happen anywhere — at home, school, or even on the way to grandma’s house. Having an emergency plan and making sure your family knows it could save valuable seconds when it counts most.

✅ Create a plan:
• Decide on a safe meeting place outside your home.
• Practice how to get out quickly and safely.
• Make sure everyone knows where to go and who to call.

👧 For parents: Teach your kids the basics!
• Their full name
• Home address
• Parent/guardian’s full names
• A trusted phone number (home or cell)

Even young children can learn this information through songs, repetition, or by practicing during family time.

You can’t predict an emergency—but you can be prepared. Take a few minutes this week to review your family’s plan. A little preparation today could make all the difference tomorrow. ❤️

Someone has stolen our garden flag and stand. We would love it to be returned no questions asked.

FYI- we have cameras so we know who you are.

Today we pause to say thank you to the incredible men and women who serve our communities as first responders — our police officers, firefighters, EMTs, dispatchers, and all those who answer the call when we need them most.

Your courage, compassion, and dedication keep us safe every single day. We see you, we appreciate you, and we honor your service. 💙

Dear friends and partners,

On behalf of Safety Town, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped make our Safe Trick-or-Treat event such a wonderful success! Because of your support, generosity, and teamwork, we were able to welcome thousands of excited little ghosts and goblins for a night of safe, family-friendly fun.

Whether you donated candy, volunteered your time, sponsored a table, helped with setup or cleanup, or simply shared the word—your contribution made a difference. Events like this remind us just how special our community is when we come together for our kids.

We saw so many smiles, creative costumes, and happy families enjoying the evening—and none of it would have been possible without each and every one of you. Thank you for helping us create memories that will last long after the candy is gone!

With gratitude,
Vanessa Hankins
