Let's wish Huntington's Search and Rescue K9 Luna a very happy 2nd birthday! K9 Luna is coming up on one year of being certified and operational for tracking missing people. Today, she celebrated her 2nd birthday with some delicious treats down at the station.

Huntington's Search and Rescue K9 Luna trains with multiple agencies to not only build important skills, but to build a bond with local agencies who may be asked to work together in unfortunate circumstances. Belchertown Police K9 is part of the training group who makes K9 Luna's program possible. Over the past three years, the Huntington Fire Association has proudly raised more than $60,000 to support the Huntington Fire Department and help reduce the financial burden on taxpayers.

These funds have been used to offset the costs of essential equipment, firefighter gear, vehicle parts, building repair materials, and other operational needs that would otherwise have to come from the department’s budget. By providing this support, the Association helps lessen the impact of budget increases on the Town of Huntington while ensuring our firefighters have the tools and resources they need to serve the community safely and effectively.

None of this happens by accident. The members of the Huntington Fire Association dedicate countless hours each year organizing fundraisers, volunteering their time, and working hard to support the department’s mission. Their efforts help ensure that necessary purchases can be made without always having to ask taxpayers for additional funding.

Thank you to every member, volunteer, donor, and community supporter who has helped make this possible. Your support directly benefits the Huntington Fire Department and the residents we proudly serve.

🐾🚒 Training Never Stops for Search and Rescue K9 Luna! 🚒🐾
Thanks to a generous gesture from the instructor, Search and Rescue K9 Luna had the opportunity to attend a day of Massachusetts Department of Fire Services Fire and Life Safety Educator class Saturday in Huntington!

Even though Luna’s specialty is search and rescue, every new environment, exposure, and training opportunity helps build confidence and strengthens the skills that make her an asset in the field. From meeting new people to taking in a different training atmosphere, it was a valuable day of learning and socialization for our hardworking K9.

A sincere thank you to the instructor and fellow classmates for welcoming Luna into the class and providing this unique opportunity! 🐕🔥

The Huntington Fire Association is excited to announce our launch of The Robert F. Garriepy Scholarship.

The Robert F. Garripey scholarship is awarded to youth residents within the Gateway region who intend to pursue a call to serve in firefighting or emergency medicine, and who display a propensity of kindness to others, a character guided by discipline, and the unrelenting drive to better themselves and their community.

Available by self application OR nomination, this $1500 is awarded once a selected candidate submits proof of completion in the area of study.
2026 will remain open for candidate selection until the end of this year, with 2027 selection opening thereafter.
