🦅 It's Bald Eagle nesting season! Help us ensure the continued success of Vermont's Bald Eagles by giving them the space they need to nest!

Right now, Bald Eagle parents need to focus on feeding and protecting their young. While there are no formal closures around Vermont Bald Eagle nests, staying at least a quarter of a mile away from a nest tree is crucial. Any disturbance puts the chicks at risk and is against the law! Retreat immediately if the adult eagles are reacting to your presence—even if it's just looking your way. Frequent disturbances, even minor ones, can cause a nest to fail.

You can report any nest site disturbances to Vermont Fish & Wildlife or Audubon Vermont Conservation Biologist Margaret Fowle ([email protected]). Thank you for helping us protect this sensitive bird species!

Help Audubon learn more about Golden-winged Warblers and their habitat needs!

Audubon Vermont has been working with Cornell Lab of Ornithology's Land Trust Bird Conservation Initiative and area land trusts, including Vermont Land Trust, Middlebury Area Land Trust & Trail Around Middlebury, and The Nature Conservancy in Vermont to create a “ golden chain” of land trust properties managed for Golden-winged Warblers in the Champlain Valley.

We need birders to share sightings of Golden-winged Warblers, Blue-winged Warblers, and their hybrids with our "Golden-chain" eBird account! We are looking for submissions from across Vermont but have a particular interest in sightings in the Champlain Valley. Upload pictures with your submissions if you have them!

The data from this eBird group will help us learn more about winged-warbler habitat use and inform future conservation projects!

Join Audubon Vermont and Lewis Creek Association for a bird walk and plant maintenance event. Learn about management work that has taken place to improve water quality and shrubland and riparian habitats for rare bird species and other wildlife that need these spaces. Enjoy time spent in nature with bird and watershed experts while also assisting with hands-on maintenance of previously planted trees and shrubs near Lewis Creek. Location details will be sent to participants after registration.

This event and work are funded by a National Fish and Wildlife Foundation grant to UVM, Audubon Vermont and several Vermont watershed organizations.

Many migratory birds fly at night and the lights of commercial and residential buildings attract and disorient them, causing collisions and leaving birds vulnerable to threats on the ground. Turning off non-essential lights can provide a safer journey for birds during migration.

Migratory birds connect us across continents, and they need safe, healthy spaces throughout their journeys. The Local Communities and Bird Habitat Stewardship Act will help create and restore bird-friendly habitats in cities and towns, strengthening communities and improving quality of life. This , urge your U.S. Representative to support this bill.

Many birds depend on our neighborhoods for nesting, migration, and wintering habitat. Urge Congress to support the Local Communities and Bird Habitat Stewardship Act.

Have you noticed the new antenna at Green Mountain Audubon Center's Education Barn?

It's not for radio or TV—that's our new Motus Wildlife Tracking tower! The tower allows us to track the movements of migrating birds outfitted with small transmitters called nanotags. Last year we tagged five Wood Thrush right here at the center as part of a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service program. Now we're eagerly awaiting their return from their wintering grounds! Stay tuned for updates!
