Huntington Honors Roberta Small with the Boston Post Cane

The Huntington Council on Aging, together with the Board of Selectmen, proudly presented the Boston Post Cane to Mrs. Roberta Small during a special ceremony this afternoon.

Family members, friends, and community residents gathered to celebrate the occasion as Mrs. Small was recognized as Huntington’s oldest resident. The Boston Post Cane is a long-standing New England tradition dating back to 1909, when The Boston Post newspaper established the program to honor the oldest citizen in participating towns. Today, the cane remains a symbol of respect, longevity, and the strong ties that connect generations within a community.

Many towns now preserve their original 1909 Boston Post Cane in a secure location, presenting a ceremonial replica to each new recipient while maintaining the tradition for future generations.

Following the presentation, guests enjoyed refreshments and spent time visiting with Mrs. Small and her family, making the afternoon a warm celebration of her remarkable life and her place in the Huntington community.
