I have some sad news today.

I am having to close the product operations of Dicraft and soon my ribbons, kits and panels will no longer be available. For the past 6 months our sales have declined sharply due to U.S. import tariffs that were implemented in August 2025, and since the largest part of my market is in the USA, continuing the manufacturing side of the business is no longer feasible.

As we prepare to close, we’re offering final clearance prices on all remaining stock and would like to extend a big thank-you to everyone who has shopped with us, everyone who has supported us over the many years of operation. We are so grateful for every workshop, every purchase, and every kind word you’ve shared.

Crafting brings people together, and you’ve been a huge part of my story.

I do intend to continue designing and producing digital patterns and instructions, so I won’t be disappearing completely, but soon you will not be able to get the products we always had.

Final stock clearance started on 10th April via my newsletter https://www.dicraft.com/blogs/blog/dicraft-closing-down-final-clearance (or see the link in my bio) and the stock is almost gone.

The clearance will continue for a few weeks (probably until the end of April to mid-June or soon thereafter) until every order has been processed.

Due to exceptional high demand, order processing will be much slower than usual, but I want to reassure you that we will work as fast as we can without compromising on quality.

We are a small, specialised team and every kit, panel and ribbon is made with care. We do appreciate your patience with us.

I just wanted you to know ahead of the time. Please order what you need from my website before they’re all gone.

I will be in touch with all my subscribers who have already placed their orders. Thank you for the overwhelming response. ♡♡♡

Hari-Kuyo is a Japanese festival for old needles, pins and small scissors. It is celebrated either in February or December, depending on the region.

Sewers and tailors go to Buddhist or Shinto temples with their broken and bent needles, thank the needles for their work, stick them in a block of tofu, and then leave.

The needles above (TRC 2013.0432a-f) are from the Misuya company in Kyoto, which has been open since 1819. These needles are hand polished, in the same direction, in order to reduce friction when the needle pierces cloth. The thinnest needle, called the "hair" needle, is used to sew silk. Thicker needles are used for brocade or on the cloth used to make kimonos and obis. The needles' eye is an almost perfect circle.

A normal set is composed of 13 different hand polished needles.
