Now get the legislature to pass the NY HEAT (Home Energy Affordable Transition) Act.
It ends free hookups for new gas customers and the requirement for gas companies to hook up anyone who wants gas. Both of these are paid for by existing gas customers!
It also caps utility bills for low and middle income households at 6% of their income.
We need the transition off gas to be well-planned and equitable.

In 2019 NYS passed the “ambitious” Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act. It established a Climate Action Council to plan how we would achieve the goals in the Climate Act. That plan was released and approved this year.

NOW it’s time to ACT. The All-Electric Building Act and the NY Home Energy Affordable Transition Act are bills from the plan and must be passed this year. There’s no time to waste.

Please urge the governor and legislature to pass a budget that includes bith these bills!
