Last week, during a TNR effort, our team came across 22 critically sick kittens that needed immediate rescue. There was no debate. No waiting until we are’t full on cats. We loaded them up and brought them to the shelter.

But those 22 new kittens didn’t arrive at an empty shelter. They arrived at a shelter already caring for 215 cats and kittens. Thanks to our incredible foster families, more than 110 are currently in foster homes, but that still leaves our cat intake area overflowing.

Our intake space isn’t a state-of-the-art isolation ward. It’s just a garage.

When that many fragile, sick kittens come through our doors, illness doesn’t politely stay in one kennel. It spreads. Healthy cats who have already endured abandonment, neglect, or life on the streets suddenly become vulnerable simply because there isn’t enough space to separate them the way we’d like.

This is why adoptions matter.
Not next month.
Right now.

Every cat that leaves our shelter for a loving home creates room, reduces stress, and helps protect the health of the animals still waiting.

We have playful kittens. We have wonderful adult cats. We even have barn cats looking for a job.
They’re ready to go home today.

If adopting isn’t an option, there are still ways you can make an immediate impact.

We’re currently critically low on clumping cat litter and Purina Cat Chow, two things we go through faster than we can keep on the shelves. Every bag and every box helps us care for the hundreds of cats and kittens depending on us each day.

Whether you adopt, donate supplies, or simply share this post, you’re helping us make room for the next emergency that we know is on the horizon.

Because sometimes the most powerful way to save a life… is by making room for the next one.

Meet Luna. 🤍

If you’ve ever met a husky, you probably expect zoomies, opinions, and enough dramatic vocals to earn a Broadway audition.

Luna… missed that meeting.

This fluffy little lady is surprisingly calm for her breed. At around 40 pounds, she’s petite by husky standards, prefers a leisurely stroll over a marathon, and is content to simply be near her people. She’ll still romp around with her son, Sonic, but she’s much more of a “take life as it comes” kind of gal.

Her favorite pastime? Giving hugs.

Luna has the sweetest habit of wrapping her front paws around you when she’s asking for attention. It’s absolutely adorable… unless you’re three feet tall. Because while she means well, her enthusiastic hugs could accidentally topple little kiddos over.

She’s not one to chase toys or demand constant entertainment. Give her a few pets, some kind words, and she’ll happily soak up the affection. (And if anyone out there happens to be handy with a grooming brush… Luna would like to formally request a spa day. This girl is all fluff and could definitely use a good blowout. 😅)

If you’ve always loved the look of a husky but aren’t necessarily looking for one that’s powered by jet fuel, Luna might just be your perfect match. She’s proof that sometimes the fluffiest dogs have the gentlest souls. 🩵

Meet Sonic. 💙

Sonic may technically be past the tiny puppy stage, but don’t tell him that. This goofy one year old still bounces through life with all the enthusiasm of a toddler. He’ll happily trot around the yard, gently mouth your hands while playing, then flop down beside his mama like the world is exhausting.

He’s the kind of dog who assumes everyone is a potential friend. New people? Great. Other dogs? Even better. He’s social, confident, and has been nothing but friendly with the pups he’s met.
Treats and ear scratches are currently ranked much higher than toys, though we suspect he’ll figure those mysterious squeaky things out eventually.

One of our favorite things about Sonic? He’s wonderfully easygoing. You can handle his paws, check his ears, peek in his mouth, touch his tail—he takes it all in stride, making him a great candidate for a family looking for a well-rounded companion.

And yes… his beautiful husky mama is here too and also looking for a home. We’d love to see them each find families of their own where they can keep spreading their sweet, happy personalities.

If you’re looking for a dog whose default setting is “life is good,” Sonic is ready to prove that every day. 🐾

Meet Barney.

Barney has officially entered his “slow and steady” era… and he has absolutely no intention of leaving it.

Around 8–10 years old, Barney wandered out of the fields as a stray. Somehow, no one ever came looking for him. And if we’re being honest? That part hurts. Because this chunky little low-rider has all the signs of a dog who was somebody’s companion once upon a time. 💔😔

These days, Barney’s priorities are simple.

✔️ Leisurely strolls. (Heavy emphasis on leisurely.)
✔️ Strategic sniffing of other dogs before deciding they’re not all that interesting.
✔️ Naps.
✔️ Snacks… although Barney’s waistline would like us to mention that we’re in need of cutting back on those.

He’s wonderfully nonchalant. The world could be spinning in circles around him, and Barney would simply shrug, find a comfy spot, and take another nap.

He’s easy on leash, keeps his kennel clean, doesn’t bark hardly at all, and asks for very little. Just a soft bed, kind people, and someone who understands that not every adventure needs to happen at full speed.

The shelter is a hard place for any dog. For a senior? Even harder.

Barney has earned his retirement. Now he just needs someone willing to help him enjoy it.

✨ REMINDER: ADOPTION FEES ARE WAIVED ON ALL ADULT CATS AND DOGS UNTIL THE END OF JUNE ✨

Waylon has been with us for approximately five minutes and has already built a fan club.
We wish we could tell you it’s because he can fold his own laundry or pays our electric bill, but honestly… he’s just that likable.

He’s the kind of dog that has people doing double takes. Those striking tri-color markings, those soulful eyes, that goofy grin… he’s got the looks of an LL Bean model. 😍 Fortunately, his personality keeps up with his looks!

Waylon loves a good walk, is always up for a game with a tennis ball or rope toy, and genuinely enjoys being around people. He knows several commands and is VERY motivated to keep learning. He’s done well meeting other dogs here, plays appropriately, and takes corrections like a mature young pup should. Waylon has lived with kids, cats, and dogs in his former home!

Fair warning: he’s a bit of a velcro dog. If you disappear, he’ll file a formal complaint with the universe. He’ll need an adopter who’s willing to help him continue building confidence and positive behaviors when home alone. He’s only 1 year old and very receptive to training - he’s still learning to self soothe!

If you’ve been waiting for a dog that makes strangers stop and say, “WOW! WHO IS THIS HANDSOME FELLA 😍?!” …this is your guy.
Just be prepared to answer that question about 47 times every time you take him anywhere. Consider it the “Waylon Effect.” 🖤🤎

Happy Father’s Day to the dads…

The seasoned dads.
The first-time dads.
The grandpas.
The stepdads.
The dog dads.
The dads who swore they “didn’t want another dog.” (We all know how that story ends 😉.)

If you’re looking for something to do today, we’re open from 12-4 and we’ve got a kennel full of dogs asking “will you be my papa? 🥺”

Listen, you could buy dad another tie, another mug, or another gadget he’ll forget about by Tuesday… but hear us out.

The shelter is open tomorrow from 12-4.

So if the best gift you can give him is you in a good mood… then the second-best gift is a tiny four-legged best friend that you “accidentally” fell in love with while you stopped in!

You’re welcome 😉
