We loved having Mackenzie New Walker visit our club to talk about the West Virginia Mine Wars Museum. She is the executive director only the museum, located in Matewan, WV.

Matewan was the site of a historical battle between local coal miners and private detectives serving as security for mining companies.

The museum holds the largest exhibition of mine wars history in the country. This includes photos, artifacts, replicas and detailed timelines.

If you would like to support the Mine Wars Museum, please visit wvminewars.org

We always love hearing from our friend Jamie Lima about Dolly Parton's Imagination Library of West Virginia! Jamie stopped by this week to talk about the 20th anniversary of the program that gifts free books to children from birth to 5 years old.

The Rotary Club of Huntington is proud to be a supporter of this program and presented a check for $1,200 to help children in Cabell County receive these books. 📚

It is officially Tyson Compton day in the City of Huntington! The community gathered today to celebrate Tyson’s many years of service leading the Huntington Area CVB. The conference room at Heritage Station is now also named in his honor.

For more than a decade, Tyson faithfully served as Secretary of the Rotary Club of Huntington, a role that requires consistency, organization, and a deep commitment to the success of the club. Week after week, year after year, Tyson showed up and did the work that keeps a club running, often behind the scenes, without recognition, but always with care and reliability.

We love you, Tyson Compton! đź’ś

Join us in congratulating Ben McElroy on being an outstanding steward of the President Stephen J. Kopp Huntington Rotary Scholarship!

Ben has truly embodied the spirit of service during his time at Marshall. As an active member of the campus Rotaract Club, he didn’t just participate, he helped grow the mission by supporting other colleges across West Virginia in starting their own clubs.

Beyond Rotary, Ben has made his mark through student government, his leadership as a residence hall director, and so many other ways that have strengthened the campus community.

This May, he will graduate from Marshall University with a degree in Criminal Justice and History and continue his journey by pursuing a master’s degree in Cincinnati.

We’re proud of all he’s accomplished and excited to see the impact he’ll continue to make. Congratulations, Ben! 👏
