Traffickers prey on the most vulnerable: people with limited material or emotional resources. They choose to target those who have experienced the trauma of violence, poverty, the welfare system, substance use, immigration issues, familial troubles, or even all of the above. This is because traffickers know it's easier to manipulate people who are facing physical or emotional instability. This is NOT to say that anyone suffering from any of these stressors is to blame for making themselves "easy targets." We must know WHO to PROTECT from this type of exploitation. A community that cares about its most vulnerable populations is critical to breaking the cycle of exploitation and violence!

The Porter Memorial Library re-opens on Monday, June 8th! We have completed our move to the temporary space in town hall and will open up for our regular Monday hours from 2pm-6pm. We are looking forward to seeing you.

Denim Day is recognized on the last Wednesday in April in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The campaign began after a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court to overturn a r**e conviction because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped the person who r**ed her remove them, thereby implying consent. Following the reversal, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim.

The Crime Victims Fund (CVF) is the main source of federal funding for victim services and victim assistants in prosecutors’ office and law enforcement agencies, but it is nearly depleted. Congress must take immediate action to ensure that victim service providers across the country do not face further catastrophic funding cuts!
