It is unbelievable that another birthday is here and instead of wishing Ry a Happy 21st he remains forever 15.

Ry was known as the funny guy, the one to make you laugh, to make any day an adventure but what was always hiding under the surface was the friend that would be there for you, to make sure you knew he cared deeply and made everyone feel special. And for those lucky enough to be close to him he always made them feel loved.

So my birthday wishes for our Strive For Five family is I hope you fill your year with being true to yourself, being emotionally generous, don’t forget to tell people how you feel, enjoy life and always hug like you mean it.

This year at the CSH pinkout games I saw Ry’s message drifting down to younger and younger kids. I saw parents supporting and carrying on the tradition. I saw the ripple effect of the Strive For Five message and truly believe you are all making a difference.

Happy Birthday Ry love you and miss you a little bit more everyday. And of course Nicole, Maria and I celebrated like you would want us to. 💕

A huge thank you to the CSH varsity soccer and football teams, Cold Spring Harbor Jr/Sr High School, and the whole CSH community for another amazing year of pink out games. It’s so touching to see the community’s continued love and support to keep Ryan’s memory alive and further Strive For Five’s initiatives. It’s truly what keeps us going

5 years since Ry has been gone. Time has a new definition now, as the same feelings that smooth out the hurt are also as painful as they were 5 years ago.

As I have done over the years, I try and take this time to reflect on what Ry taught us, what he left us with, and how we can try to live up to him.

Be true to yourself - which may be difficult but you truly are the best version of you. Be emotionally generous - you never know when a kind word or smile can change a person’s day. Tell people you care - everyone deserves to know how much they are valued. Enjoy life - wear what makes you happy, get up and dance if you want, and laugh loud and easily. Hug like you mean it - we all know that feeling.

As I write this I realize by trying to follow these values it has helped me heal. But more importantly I have received them back and seen them expressed to others in multiples. I truly believe we are all making the world a better place with each small act. I don’t know how to express it, but believe me when I say I am truly thankful and humbled by all of you. Your support for Strive for Five has been a savior, and your love and support has made me a better person.
