Exciting things have been happening over at El Centrito de Apoyo. On September 21st, our member and resident poet, Eliseo, was honored at the 24th Annual California Memorial Project Remembrance Ceremony hosted by Disability Rights CA at Metro state hospital. For ever 15 years, Eliseo participated in the ceremony delivering heartfelt poems, dedicated to all in Recovery and in Remembrance of those who have passed away in CA State hospitals. Marielena, along with other Members and Volunteers attended in support as Eliseo received a special award honoring his service. On September 22, El Centrito received a Certificate of Recognition for their support of the HP Contigo Resource Fair from the Mayor’s Office. Way to go El Centrito de Apoyo for your hard work and “whatever it takes” approach to supporting our community!

✨ 57 Graduates. 4 PRPSN Employees. 2 Years of Transformation. September 28 marked the two-year anniversary of CAPS Academy’s partnership with the CA Institution for Men. (CIM). What began as an opportunity to provide education and workforce development has become something much greater—a community built around hope, dignity, connection, and the belief that our past does not define our future. We are deeply grateful to the CIM leadership, our partners at MHAC, the CAPS team and PRPSN staff and SMEs who made this work possible. Most of all, thank you to our students and graduates for trusting us to be part of your journey.

🎒✨ Back to School in Maywood!

PRPSN was grateful to join the community at Riverfront Park in Maywood for a Back-to-School event with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department!

Families came together for an afternoon filled with live music, dancing, free food, giveaways, and resources from local nonprofits and community organizations. PRPSN was proud to table alongside our community partners, connect with families, share mental health and peer support resources, and help make the transition back to school a little brighter. 💛

We’re always grateful for opportunities to show up and make sure our communities know that support is available when they need it.

Preparing for the opening of Ubuntu House has truly been a labor of love. 💛🌿

We’re incredibly grateful to Community Coalition for their generous $10,000 grant, which helped us bring our beautiful gazebo oasis to life. This space was created with rest and healing in mind…offering future guests a peaceful place to breathe, gather, and simply be.

Every detail brings us one step closer to welcoming our community into Ubuntu House. 🏡✨

Since this addition lauched, the Recharge Station has been a welcoming resource for community members and a place to simply take a break, cool down, and have a snack.

California is considering changes to CARE Court that we among many peer advocates, disability rights organizations, and mental health leaders believe could expand court involvement while weakening privacy and self-determination for people seeking care.

Did you know PRPSN is a WRAP Center of Distinction? 💙

We hosted our very first WRAP Advanced Level Facilitator (ALF) Training, welcoming participants from states including Texas and Ohio alongside California.

We shared stories and deepened our commitment to recovery oriented support. Now, these facilitators will return to their communities equipped to certify and mentor others, expanding the reach of WRAP and helping more people discover tools for wellness and recovery. 🌱✨

We headed to the California State Capitol alongside MHAC and several of their programs to speak out against the Governor’s proposed May Revise Budget, which includes a $6.7 million to behavioral health services and policies that could limit access to Medi-Cal benefits, reduce funding for community-based organizations, and make it harder for people to receive the care they need. 🫂💚

Advocacy isn’t just policy discussions and meetings. It’s building relationships and raising our voices as we advocate for those we serve.

And yes—advocacy can be fun, too. ✨🏛️💚
