I was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) in 2012. RP is an inherited condition that causes the loss of peripheral vision as well as the inability to process light. Loss of peripheral vision results in “tunnel vision” and it feels like one is looking at the world through a tube or a straw in more advanced stages. When our eyes are unable to process light, we lose the ability to transition to

and from dark and light environments. For me, going from a dark room to a brightly lit one (or vice versa) can render me completely blind until my eyes adjust, which takes my eyes 30-45 minutes. I had unexplained falls and car accidents for years before I was diagnosed. I retired from a career in nursing (RN Director) to being a housewife, grandma, wife, etc. I have always been a self-taught geek and I started Retinitis Pigmentosa Support Group (www.RPSupport.org) as a place where people with RP and their loved ones could go to get support, learn more about RP and share their stories. RPSupport.org is the first US-based website owned and operated BY and FOR patients with Retinitis Pigmentosa with the primary purpose of providing online support to patients along with their families and friends of those afflicted with non-treatable sight-stealing conditions.
