Amigos de Bolsa Chica We advocate for the full protection of the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve.

Fifty years ago, we went to court to protect the Bolsa Chica wetlands from development and began a movement. Our conservation efforts continue to restore hundreds of acres of our coast to their natural state after a century of man-made ecological destruction. Today we tackle the challenges posed by a rapidly changing planet upon some of our most delicate ecosystems through research, science, and education. Join us in safeguarding the health of our wetlands and oceans for generations to come.

Join us for the 42nd annual California Coastal Cleanup Day on Saturday, September 19, 9 AM to Noon!

Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve, South Parking Lot: 18000 Pacific Coast Hwy, Huntington Beach, CA 92648 (halfway between Warner Ave and Seapoint St)!

Once you register you will receive a confirmation email with a link to the event waiver - please be sure to read and sign it. You will need to show proof of signing the waiver at the event. Copies of the waiver will also be available at the event.

Gorgeous pictures of some of our most iconic raptors and gorgeous herons at Bolsa Chica.

IMPORTANT reminders to help continue to do our part to protect these creatures...

1) Rodenticide is very harmful for raptor and bird/predator populations! Live catch and release is always the best option.

2) Remember to reduce and/or not use single use plastics, and ESPECIALLY make sure they are not left in wildlife areas or in waterways!

National Wildlife Day is just ONE of the 365 days during the year when we remember how important our wildlife is, and these birds are a HUGE part of the essential ecosystem in Orange County and our wetlands.

Every observation adds to a statewide picture of California’s amazing biodiversity, and the information we gather together helps inform the California 30x30 Initiative .

Don’t be shy little one!

This was a visit during one of our FLOW Fridays, and this was a rather unusual visitor! We often see birds flying above, but this creature landed on John’s leg suddenly!

They are completely harmless to humans, that is why Annie can have it in her hands so easily – don’t worry when you see them, they are just living their lives!
