We’d like to give a warm welcome to our two newest team members. Please say hello to Tara Polich and Marisol Farfan.

Tara is taking the reigns as our high school and college educator. She has over 10 years of experience working with adolescents of all ages in both home and school environments. She is passionate about ensuring every student reaches their fullest potential.

Marisol has taken on the role of being our community outreach liaison. Marisol has worked in the nonprofit world for 10 years, providing academic support to students experiencing homelessness. She also has experience implementing recruitment strategies. She is passionate about doing work with purpose and making a difference for future generations.

We are very excited to have them both aboard the Scholars’ Hope team. We’re looking forward to working with them and watching them grow with us.

Happy Thanksgiving from the Scholars’ Hope family to yours. We hope you have a safe and wonderful holiday.

We’re well on our way into November and the holiday season is nearly here. The frenzy of early Black Friday sales are popping up at all of our favorite retailers. We’re getting ready to host Thanksgiving dinners. Counting down the days until it’s time to decorate for Christmas (some of us are already there😆). Making mental lists of the perfect Christmas gifts for our loved ones. And indulging in a holiday treat or two more often.

While all of these annual activities can be fun and fill the air with a seasonal bliss, let’s not forget to also take this time to give back to our local communities and take part in Giving Tuesday.

It's a day to support your favorite nonprofits or charities. Think of Giving Tuesday like an extension of that moment when everyone around the Thanksgiving table shares what they're grateful for — a day for not only counting blessings, but also passing them on to others in need.

Consider giving to Scholars Hope Foundation this November 30th. Your donation will provide the tools and services for students to succeed in their academic and personal lives. When you give to SHF you set a student up for a lifetime of success.

𝟜 𝕋𝕚𝕡𝕤 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕊𝕥𝕦𝕕𝕖𝕟𝕥 𝕊𝕦𝕔𝕔𝕖𝕤𝕤

✏️ Aim to get 8 hours of sleep. Getting quality sleep is so important for your body’s recovery. It will sharpen your focus and improve your memory.

✏️ No one liked studying. But it has to be done. That said, don’t force yourself into a study marathon. Break up the studying into 30 minute sessions instead. This will make it more bearable as well as more effective.

✏️ Keep your study space clean and organized. A busy, messy space can create distractions and add anxiety to the mix.

✏️ Get some exercise! Being a student can lead to being sedentary for many hours a day. Move your body and get that blood flowing. It’s good for your overall health and can give you boosts of energy to get through those study sessions.

These are just 4 of the many things that students can implement into their lives to help them succeed. What are some that you recommend that aren’t on this list? Comment below 👇🏼.

We’ve just started a new school year and some students are feeling anxious about being back. Here’s a great article on how to help ease that back to school anxiety.

There are several easy ways to tell when a child’s anxiety is cause for concern, say psychology experts from the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center.

Scholars’ Hope Foundation helps students in many different ways. But, something that sets us apart from other academic assistance programs, is that we assess the whole child. We build on the child’s social emotional skills as well as academic skills. And they truly do go hand in hand.

Social emotional learning, or SEL, is helpful to both children and adults, increasing self-awareness, academic achievement, and positive behaviors both in and out of the classroom. From an academic standpoint, students who participated in SEL programs saw an 11 percentile increase in their overall grades and better attendance.

The whole child approach is proven to work. We have proven this time and time again with our program. Scholars’ Hopes equips with the staff and statistics to guide your child to success. If you’d like to learn more about what we offer visit our website, www.scholarshope.org

𝔹𝕒𝕔𝕜 𝕥𝕠 𝕊𝕔𝕙𝕠𝕠𝕝 📚✏️📖

It’s hard to believe back to school is just around the corner! It’s time to do some shopping, reset some habits and mentally prepare.

Last year was a really odd year for many. And many are feeling unsure of how this next school year will play out. While no one can be 100% certain how this year will go, we can prepare students and set them up for success. Here are 5 tips to help your student(s) take one the 2021-2022 school year.

✏️ Set expectations. Many children will have anxieties or uncertainties about going back to school and being around their classmates again after hearing it was unsafe. Take time to answer their questions with comforting language and let them know that “normal” can be ever changing.

✏️ Set routines. Many children may have gotten a bit too comfortable rolling out of bed and doing their school work in pajamas. Remind them what is appropriate for school and get them used to waking up earlier again.

✏️ Get that morning routine back in order. Start it now so that your children can get used to waking up earlier and earlier before school is actually back in session. This not only helps your children, but you as the parent/ guardian as well.

✏️ Make a nightly routine too! This could look like getting lunches packed, backpacks ready, outfits picked out, setting an alarm, and getting to bed at a good hour.

✏️ Make sure to make family time. One of the positives from last year was many families got to spend more time together. This may make suddenly being away from you hard for your child/children. Setting a daily dinner time is a great way to make this possible.
