Deep in the northern Congo Rainforest near the village of Tala-Tala, the Rowland Ward Foundation, in partnership with Congo Forest Safaris, is working to protect wildlife while investing in the local community. Through our Community Program, the local primary school receives essential educational materials, and students learn how wildlife conservation and healthy forests can directly benefit their community and their future.

Congo Forest Safaris is also making remarkable progress through its dedicated anti-poaching efforts. The team completed an impressive 264 days of active forest patrols. Last year, approximately 15,000 snares were removed, but continued pressure from the anti-poaching team has helped dramatically reduce that number to fewer than 4,000 this year—an encouraging sign that these efforts are making a meaningful difference.

There is still important work ahead, but this progress demonstrates what sustained conservation efforts can accomplish. By combining anti-poaching patrols, wildlife protection, education, and community support, the Rowland Ward Foundation and Congo Forest Safaris are helping build a stronger future for both the people of Tala-Tala and the remarkable wildlife of the Congo Rainforest. ROWLAND WARD — A LEGACY DATING BACK TO 1870

It all began in Piccadilly, London, in 1870, when James Rowland Ward established a name that would become legendary in the world of hunting, natural history, and wildlife preservation.

A master taxidermist, Ward's remarkable craftsmanship attracted royalty, explorers, and some of history's most celebrated hunters, including Theodore Roosevelt. His famous London establishment, known as “The Jungle,” became a destination for sportsmen and naturalists from around the world.

But perhaps his greatest legacy was Rowland Ward's Records of Big Game, a pioneering publication that began documenting big-game measurements in the late 1800s and remains the oldest record book of its kind.

More than 150 years later, that tradition continues through the Rowland Ward Foundation, preserving the history of big-game species while supporting sustainable, fair-chase hunting, wildlife conservation, and the indigenous communities who share their lands with wildlife.

From a small London establishment to a worldwide conservation legacy, the Rowland Ward name continues to make history!

After an 18-year absence, legal, regulated hunting has returned—with conservation at the heart of the effort.
