Congratulations to WYATT YOUNT from Huntington Beach, California for being named Surfer of the Week for the week of October 12. With pumping overhead tropical storm surf firing at his local break at the Huntington Beach Pier for SW Open Event 2, there was no stopping the 14 year old from making a major statement. In the Juniors U16 final, Wyatt went huge, unleashing a near-perfect 9.77 and backing it up with an excellent 8.07 to claim a dominant victory! He is also a member of the USASurfing Junior Team, helping bring home team silver for the USA at the recent ISA World Junior Surfing Championships.
Wyatt is currently in the 9th grade at Huntington Beach High School and his favorite subject is T.V. Production. He also loves to read! Wyatt is sponsored by Hurley, Huntington Surf and Sport, Java Point, Banzai Bowls, Future Fins and Creatures of Leisure. He draws inspiration from his local heroes Brett Simpson Christian Saenz Ryan Simmons & George Lambert . Wyatt is coached by Christian Saenz who was a standout NSSA competitor and champion in the late 2000s.
With a decade of surfing under his belt at just age 14, Wyatt first hit the waves at 4 years old when his dad introduced him to the sport by pushing him into waves on a longboard at the Newport River Jetties.
When asked what he loves most about NSSA contests, Wyatt said, “I love competing with all my friends!” His goals for the season? “Make every final, get a few firsts and win the Nationals.” He is off to a sensational start with one win already in the books!
