Catnip & Carrots Animal Bunch

Catnip & Carrots Animal Bunch Dedicated to cats & rabbits & canines & critters of all sorts! We are a full service "animal bunch"!

We specialize in animal welfare, spay/neuter/microchip education, referrals & copay reimbursements, feral colony management, lost & found services, supplying food banks & pantry's with kibble & cat litter, donations of specialized animal respiratory masks to Fire Depts & EMS units, animal cruelty investigations, free microchip scanning, occasional adoptions & as funds allow, veterinary assistance

to at-risk pets of low income senior or disabled families. We believe shelters are not the solution – just a band-aid on the problem. You must confront the crisis of pet overpopulation at the root and that begins with spay/neuter programs. Simply put, as hard as we try, there are not enough homes for them all. One female cat and its offspring can produce 420,000 more kittens in just 7 years! Just 1 female rabbit can give birth 12 times a year and produce 84 more babies! Reduce the litters and everyone reaps the rewards: less strays roaming our neighborhoods and destroying our property; fewer civil complaints about noise, aggressive feral cats and safety concerns such as rabies; less animals being hit by cars and causing accidents; the killing and wounding of wildlife in our communities; and most importantly – less euthanasia. Remember: Every call to County Animal Control or Law Enforcement costs YOU money. We could literally save millions of tax dollars at the personal, city, county and state levels by aggressively addressing this issue and it's simple solution.

As nutrition programs run out of funding in the next few days, the fallout won’t be just the poor, the elderly and children who will go hungry. The majority of these people also own pets. Hard decisions will need to be made & we all know who will be expendable. The family pet will suffer, be taken to a shelter, rescues will be inundated with relinquishment requests they cannot fulfill and ultimately the animal will be set free to the streets (or worse, a cardboard box left with a note) to fend for themselves. It happens by the tens of thousands now because of rising veterinary costs. Cats are most vulnerable.

So remember when your big-hearted self 💗 donates to your local food pantry in the coming weeks, ask if they accept pet food (and cat litter) donations. Some do not provide animal food due to stringent health regulations and space limitations. But if your donation center does accept it, please drop off what you can. Even a single can matters. Let’s keep pets at home with their families.

As you can see, Catnip & Carrots has held food drives for 20 years and believes our pets are family, too. 🐶🐱🐰😀

Way to go, Ohio!!! Finally some action to stop this barbaric practice. I admit I was once naive to what the surgery actually did to my cat. For a solid week, she sat on her hind legs - in pain. After she healed, she still tried to destroy the heck out of the furniture!! It’s a natural, in-bred action to shed nail sheaths. Sisal rope, cardboard and nail tips can help redirect the action.

Ohio lawmakers have their claws out — introducing a bipartisan bill to make it illegal to declaw a cat.

Violations could lead to thousands of dollars in fines. However, there are carve-outs in the legislation if the cat needs their claws removed for their overall health.

It is with a heavy heart I post the passing of our beloved Vice-President, Charlean Allen.

'Charlie' as everyone knew her, was much more than a 20 year (!) board member for our organization. She was a tireless volunteer, the first to lend a helping hand or donate a dollar, had endless ideas on fundraisers and day-to-day operations plus a positive attitude in abundance. With her infectious smile, never ending laugh and a joke or story at the ready, she was the center of every adoption event.

The woman never knew a stranger - and that includes the bazillion animals she came across in her life! They loved her as much as she loved them. She was a 'foster failure' in the best way - giving a loving home to so many who waited, were pushed aside or considered too difficult. She just shrugged her shoulders and made them a part of her personal 'crew'.

She was a friend with a willing ear who never carried judgement and an experienced mentor who taught us all how to navigate the often difficult world of animal rescue. I honestly don't have a single bad memory of Charlie. Not one. Only smiles of remembrance.

While homeless and at-risk animals may have been her life's calling, believe me, her family was her biggest joy of all. Our condolences go out to all of them as they tread new steps in a world a bit darker than yesterday.

President (in mourning)

If you can help, even $5.00, it will be much appreciated to help animals affected by these devastating fires. We used to work directly with the Pasadena Humane Society with animal placement when we had our adoption center. Let’s share the love. 💕
